That's a very arbitrary thing to make a requirement. Almost everyone upvotes their own posts.
We debated quite a bit about how to handle self-votes when calculating airdrop percentages. Self-voting is allowed by Hive but often looked down upon by members of the Hive community. In the end, the decision was made for self-voted posts to still count toward the VYB airdrop, but only at 10% instead of 100%.
The 10% number was chosen so that those who consistently self-voted their posts would still receive some VYB, but would be encouraged to re-evaluate the real benefit to themselves of self-voting, especially in light of the fact that self-votes will be forbidden on VYB (consistent self-votes on VYB will result in the account, and associated alt accounts, being muted).
With all that said, we felt there was really no valid reason to self-vote comments. That's why the decision was made to penalize self-voted comments by -500%.
So, in summary, we don't dispute anyone's 'right' to self-vote. We simply choose to not support it.
I wish you guys luck.
