After a long summer that honestly didn't feel that long at all, the NFL regular season kicks off tomorrow. I know along with other Detroit Lions fans, we have been waiting patiently for this weekend through the warmer months. The only sad part is we have to wait until a bit later on Sunday to actually see our team take the field. I'll get to that more in a bit though.
First things first, tomorrow night at 8:20 on NBC Dallas is heading into Philly to take on the Eagles. I know the Cowboys are hopefully looking to reverse their fortunes from a pretty abysmal season last year, but I personally can't stand the Cowboys that much, so I hope The Eagles give them a very warm welcome to the city of brotherly love.
We also get some Friday night NFL football this week as Kansas City heads into Los Angeles to face the Chargers. Now, you didn't hear this from me, but this actually might be an occasion where I cheer for coach khaki to win a game. I really am not much of a Chiefs fan either. I think Mahomes is over-rated and they get a lot of extra love from the officials simply because they are the Chiefs. It's been proven time and time again that lately luck has more to do with their winning than actually being good.
Speaking of a team looking to reverse their fortunes, Carolina heads down to Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 PM for one of the early afternoon games. Meanwhile, The Giants head to Washington and Pittsburgh face off against the Jets in New York. There are actually a lot of games in that 1 PM slot this week. We have Arizona at New Orleans, Las Vegas vs. the Patriots, and Miami taking on Indianapolis. Finally, Cincinnati has an instate rivalry game against Cleveland, and Tampa Bay heads to Atlanta to face the Falcons.
Later in the afternoon around 4 PM we have San Francisco taking on Seattle, Tennessee heading to the mile high city to face Denver, and Houston looking for a win against the Rams at 4:25 PM. Personally, at 4:25 I will be watching Detroit hopefully break some hearts at Lambeau field when they pick up where they left off last year against the Packers.
I'll be the first to admit I am pretty nervous. The preseason games weren't that great and with most of the coaching staff leaving, there are a lot of questions still lingering as to whether the Lions have the same magic they did the past two years.
We shall see!
Finally, Sunday night we get Baltimore versus Buffalo in what should be a good game, and then on Monday we have Minnesota taking on Chicago.
Are you ready for some football?!
