Taking Shape

Now that we are into September, things are starting to take shape with the playoff picture for the MLB. Hopefully the Tigers slump is well behind them and it will be nothing but wins from here on out. I saw an early playoff bracket the other day and they had the Tigers as the one seed in the AL with a first round bye. While I hope that is definitely the case, I am not going to hold my breath just in case. Crazier things have happened come September.

Right now the Tigers are back at the top of the AL with 80 wins. Our neighbors to the north are still in the running as Toronto has a close 79 wins. Kansas City is still about 10 games behind the Tigers in the AL Central, but The Yankees, Boston, and Houston all have 76, 77, and 76 wins respectively.

As has been the case all year, the NL is a bit more congested. Milwaukee seems to have gotten hot at just the right time with 85 wins under their belt and the seat at the top of the entire league. Despite that, the powers that be still have the Dodgers as the favorites to win the World Series. Seems pretty silly to me.

Philadelphia is tied with the Tigers at 80 wins and second place in the NL. Meanwhile the Cubs are still in the running with 79 wins, the Dodgers have 78 wins, and San Diego has 76 wins. Finally, the Mets are pretty close too with 74 wins on the season.

I do have to point out the fact that Colorado is sitting at the bottom of the league with a horrible 39 wins on the season. They are one game away from having 100 losses which is just downright sad. I hope they are able to turn things around. Their ballpark is a beautiful park and it was awesome to watch a game there last summer.

Barring some out of left field run by another team, I think it is safe to assume that all of those teams are going to be in the running for at least a little taste of the playoff picture. I'd love for the Tigers to be straight in the playoffs and not have to worry about all of this Wild Card crap, but we will see I guess.

Until then all we can really do is just ride the wave and see what happens.
