Because I have always been a bit of a numbers geek — even though I might not be too worried about setting goals these days — I always like to look at numbers and do comparisons.
Today, during a break between boring tasks, I ended up taking a look at some of the various things that live in my Hive-Engine wallet.
It's sad how pretty much everything I have accumulated over the years has basically ended up being worth "just a couple of dollars." Sure, the tokens keep piling up, but the outcome remains pretty consistent.
If we start at the beginning — going all the way back to how this account got started — I have almost 51,000 PAL tokens sitting there and they're not even worth a couple of dollars. Try 15 cents.
Then I checked on my Proof of Brain (POB) tokens and I've managed to make my way up to 10,600 tokens staked, and it's "just a couple of dollars" even though I keep adding tokens from ongoing posts and curation. There was a time when that would have represented a substantial chunk of money!
Next, I looked at my VYB tokens, which are basically an offshoot of the pub tokens and I've managed to accumulate 6,800 of those and they are not even a couple of dollars.
More recently, I decided to support @bradleyarrow's BBH project, so I've slowly been building up balances in both the BBH and BBHO tokens. I currently have about 12,500 BBH tokens, and just under 2,000 BBHO tokens, and each of those holdings are — guess what — "just a couple of dollars."
For a while now, I decided I wanted to support the Hive-Engine ecosystem itself, so I have been slowly adding a few BEE tokens, to where I now have about 250 staked, and those are about the only thing that are worth more than a couple of dollars but they're only worth about $6.00.
I am also trying supporting the ALIVE project, and acquired some tokens in that to where I currently have nearly 2,000 staked, and those are worth less than a dollar.
This post, by the way, is not intended to be some kind of complaint or lament, just a examination of how things have progressed, and perhaps an interesting illustration of this idea that while the number of tokens might be going up consistently the equivalent value in USD keep slowly declining.
Kind of makes me wonder whether the whole idea of cryptocurrency — aside from major investment tokens like Bitcoin and ETH — has basically become irrelevant and are not likely to ever become anything.
On some level, it makes me happy that I just enjoy the process of blogging and writing commentaries, and interacting with other people in the community for its own sake, rather than as a source from which I actively seek rewards or income.
And maybe it's that kind of approach that will leave people less likely to constantly sell and drive the prices down.
I don't know.
Feel free to leave a comment — this IS "social" media, after all!

We need to have tens of thousands of coins for our vote to deliver a decent curation reward. My last tally showed that I had over 7 million tokens ... that add up to just a few hundred dollars. I will probably end up with ten million by the end of the year (if HIVE is still active).
My current idea is to actively trade tokens. IMHO the best tokens are those which have already collapse but still pay the curation reward.
From a financial POV, curation on hive is a disheartening job. I kind of knew it would be because I am also a math geek.
