Hola querido hiver.

Todo tiene una fecha de caducidad y los Hive Open Days no son una excepción. Llegó el día de las despedidas, ese que no nos gusta y es el inicio de un nuevo período de espera hasta la siguiente oportunidad de encontrarnos. Aunque esta vez es posible que sea para poco tiempo, pues acababa de deshacer las maletas cuando me sorprendió la noticia de que el próximo HiveFest se celebrará en Barcelona. Tiene que pasar algo muy gordo para que no esté presente. Más cerca solo me queda que se haga en la ciudad en la que vivo, jaja.

Dejamos aparte los sueños y aterrizamos en lo que venía a contarte. El último día de los Hive Open Days comenzó para mí como había empezado este encuentro, con contratiempos. Mi plan inicial era sumarme a un paseo por un sendero cercano a la localidad de Calpe en compañía de @ph1102 @mipiano y @enraizar. Sin embargo, el móvil me traicionó y no sé qué hice que el despertador no sonó.

Recordé que @ninaeatshere había preparado un paseo turístico por Alicante, por lo que aproveché para descansar un poco más y acudí al sitio donde se agrupaban el resto de hivers supervivientes.

Si eres observador te habrás dado cuenta de que hay algo que aparece en muchas fotografías de este post: ¡escaleras! Todavía me duelen las rodillas por el esfuerzo de ese día. La parte antigua de Alicante está a los pies de su Castillo de Santa Bárbara y los espacios llanos son prácticamente inexistentes. O caminas hacia arriba o lo haces hacia abajo...

Visitamos la Basílica de Santa María y tuvimos la oportunidad de disfrutar de un momento mágico. Había un coro ensayando que hizo la experiencia casi mística.

Entramos al Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante y desde allí nos dirigimos al Barrio de la Santa Cruz mientras tratábamos de adivinar los acertijos que Nina nos propuso. Por el camino nos encontramos a unos hivers encarcelados, los liberamos de su prisión y se incorporaron gustosos al grupo explorador.

¡Gané uno de los premios! Merecía el esfuerzo de posar en una foto para la posteridad. Pasamos por delante de la Ermita de San Roque y llegamos a la zona de las calles más conocidas.

En ese fin de semana se celebraba la Fiesta de las Cruces de Mayo. El Barrio de Santa Cruz se adorna con cruces de flores y detalles artesanales realizados por los propios vecinos. También hacen pasacalles y conciertos. Las calles estaban llenas de gente en un ambiente festivo en el que nos sumergimos con gusto.

Comimos en la zona. Me gustó la decoración, por un lado el llamativo traje de torero y por otro los cuadros alusivos a la Semana Santa de Alicante. Al parecer el local es la sede de la Junta de Cofradías.

Después de comer y tomar un café, empezaron las despedidas. Unos cuantos decidimos irnos a la playa para evitar caer rendidos si nos íbamos a nuestros alojamientos a descansar. Fue el mejor plan, reencontrarme con las olas y la arena, conversar de lo divino y lo humano, sentir la brisa del mar... un reconstituyente natural que cargó las pilas para apurar nuestras últimas horas juntos.

Hubo tres valientes que se atrevieron a meterse en el agua y saltar entre las olas. ¡Y trajeron una buena adquisición para el Clean Planet! Ese cubo que surgió de las aguas llevaba tiempo allí metido, pues tenía conchas pegadas en su superficie.

Terminamos el día cenando en una cervecería que dificultaba las fotografías por la oscuridad ambiental pero con una comida y bebida de lo más recomendables. Hi, dear hiver.

Everything has an expiry date, and the Hive Open Days are no exception. The day of farewells has arrived—the one we don’t like—and it marks the start of another waiting period until the next chance to meet up. Although this time it might not be for long, as I’d only just unpacked my bags when I was surprised by the news that the next HiveFest will be held in Barcelona. Something really big would have to happen for me not to be there. The only thing closer would be if it were held in the city where I live, haha.

Let’s put dreams aside and get down to what I came to tell you. The last day of the Hive Open Days began for me just as this event had started: with a few hiccups. My initial plan was to join a walk along a trail near the town of Calpe in the company of @ph1102, @mipiano and @enraizar. However, my mobile let me down and I don’t know what I did, but the alarm didn’t go off.

I remembered that @ninaeatshere had organised a sightseeing tour of Alicante, so I took the opportunity to rest a little longer and headed to the spot where the rest of the surviving Hivers were gathering.

If you’re observant, you’ll have noticed that there’s something that appears in many of the photos in this post: stairs! My knees still ache from the exertion of that day. The old town of Alicante lies at the foot of Santa Bárbara Castle and flat surfaces are practically non-existent. You’re either walking uphill or downhill...

We visited the Basilica of Santa María and had the chance to enjoy a magical moment. There was a choir rehearsing, which made the experience almost mystical.

We entered the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art and from there headed to the Santa Cruz neighbourhood whilst trying to solve the riddles Nina had set us. Along the way we came across some imprisoned hivers; we freed them from their prison and they happily joined our exploration group.

I won one of the prizes! It was worth the effort to pose for a photo for posterity. We walked past the Chapel of San Roque and reached the area with the best-known streets.

That weekend saw the celebration of the Fiesta de las Cruces de Mayo. The Santa Cruz neighbourhood is decorated with floral crosses and handcrafted decorations made by the residents themselves. There are also parades and concerts. The streets were packed with people in a festive atmosphere that we happily immersed ourselves in.

We had a meal in the area. I liked the décor: on the one hand, the eye-catching bullfighter’s costume, and on the other, the paintings depicting Holy Week in Alicante. Apparently, the premises are the headquarters of the Board of Brotherhoods.

After lunch and a coffee, it was time to say our goodbyes. A few of us decided to head to the beach to avoid collapsing from exhaustion if we went back to our accommodation to rest. It was the perfect plan: reconnecting with the waves and the sand, chatting about everything under the sun, feeling the sea breeze… a natural pick-me-up that recharged our batteries so we could make the most of our final hours together.

There were three brave souls who dared to wade into the water and jump amongst the waves. And they brought back a fine find for Clean Planet! That bucket that emerged from the water had been there for some time, as it had shells stuck to its surface.

We ended the day with dinner at a pub where the dim lighting made it difficult to take photos, but the food and drink were highly recommended.
