Some pictures I saw had things that look like that as a raw specimen. If I saw that laying around I wouldn't think much of it, but probably would have picked it up and took it home. I'm a rock hound in addition to a prospector though.

I heard a story about a guy who bought a rock from a Navajo in Arizona for fifteen dollars, turned out it was a diamond. You never know what you might find out there!
