In Musical Photo Contest Round #5, about two weeks ago, I shared in this community my activity as a Video-Joker (VJ).
A VJ is a visual entertainer who inserts multimedia content (photography, video, animations) with the cadence of sound worked by DJs.
I promise to show you some of my visual sets in a future post. Before that, I want to share with you my debut. My first performance.
I inaugurated the opening of a nightclub (THEATRIX) that had previously been a movie theater (Cinema Avenida - Coimbra). The owners invested half a million euros in adapting the space to turn it into a nightclub. They kept the huge projection screen and installed 10 projectors, 5 on each wall, to cover the entire large space with images. Eleven projectors in total.
The challenge was enormous with so much technology, but the result was worth it. Around 80% of the area was used for multimedia projections.
DJ Black Coffee, who was on a world tour, was invited for the official opening. For me, this was an extreme responsibility. Either it went well and I carried on. Or it would go badly and I would give up, taking on the loss of almost 10,000 euros I had invested (Arkaos control and software, Edirol V8 video table and MacBook Pro).
As luck protects the bold, we had a memorable evening, everything went better than expected and the night was memorable for the 900 people who attended.
I was honored by the praise of this giant of Afro House, a South African DJ and producer. A simple, humble and cordial person. He has an impressive career, bringing his ancestry through music. Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, his official name, works with only one hand. An accident when he was young caused several nerve injuries in his left hand. Throughout his life, he has recovered 40% of his mobility through physiotherapy.
As well as being a magnificent producer and the official representative of Afrohouse, his greatest legacy is philanthropy. Black Coffee created the Black Coffee Fundantion with his own resources, an institution that supports children and young people in vulnerable situations, providing education and access to music.
I leave you with his 2019 performance at the Mecca of electronic music, Tomorrowland. An authentic trip, body and mind, through Afro music.
