Unexpected Visitors That Turned Into Family: The Stray Cats that Chose Us

"We don't adopt stray cats, they adopt us".

They said we can choose our pets, but it hits different when they chose us.

Good Evening my Asean Hivers, greetings from the Philippines, I hope everyone is having a great week, today I am sharing with you how these stray animals changed our perception of cats, because our family is more used to with the dogs.

In 2023, there was a pregnant cat who took refuge in our humble garden, she gave birth to two healthy kittens, one is a girl and one is a boy. I told my Mom to keep them but my Mom refused and said cats are smelly, and mean animals 😁 maybe because It's not really easy to earn their trust, and even after you already win them, they set a clear boundary that you have to respect, maybe my Mom doesn't have a pleasant experience with cats before, and so she told me, we will just let them stay until the kittens are healthier and big enough, and then we will find people who can foster or adopt them, but the Mommy Cat is ferocious, she wouldn't allow us to touch them or her babies, so we just made sure to give them enough food and clean water. I named the two kittens, Smoke and Cloud.

The only boy cat I have is Smoke and he is very sweet, but despite it, he doesn't want to be caged and wants to freely roam around the neighborhood.

Now, we already have 7 cats, the 3 of them aren't spayed and neutered, so we can't really touch them or control them, but they like staying in our garden, last March, Mommy cat gave birth again and we decided to bring them inside the house so they will be used to with people, I tried to lure the Mommy cat so she can come too, but she is really avoidant and so we just let them stay in the garden, my Father made a safe house for them so they won't get wet when it rains, in the morning, my Mom would let the kittens out so they can drink milk, play and get some sunshine.

I never imagined I would fall in love with cats, my first ever pet is a dog, I noticed that they are making me more calm, majority of discussions in the house and with my friends and boyfriend seems easier to handle, they also taught me boundaries, and so I think I am slowly adapting to their behavior, my boyfriend would even joke about me behaving like q cat 😺.

This week i was very busy afternthe typhoon I got a lot of cancellations of classes and since the power is back, i am making sure to recover from all the expenses we had during the typhoon, I am feeling guilty about not spending time with them and just this night, they are begging me to put them out of the cage, they are meowing softly, and they sre jumping and rolling, showing me that they are in the mood to play, and even though I'm already tired, i gave in, and at 11:00pm, we were playing tag inside the house 😁 thankfully the parentals weren't annoyed,because they love them too.

I think everyone already knows that cat's purr can heal, their purr frequency has the vibrations of between 25 and 150 Hertz, and these frequencies are said to promote bone growth, repair tissues, relieves pain and reduces swelling, and do you know that cats do not just purr, no matter how much food and care you offer them, they voluntarily do it when they feel safe and well taken care of.

As for me, and my family, we don't really care whether they can heal or not, what's important is that they trusted us, despite the many neighbors nearby, they chose our family,and si we are giving them a safe shelter and enough food to nurture them, and make sure they are healthy and happy, they are part of the family, maybe their healing ability is just a bonus, but the joy they bring to the family is incomparable, there's something really peaceful about being with animals, my Grandma said they are the guardians of this world, and once you experience the companionship of them, you will never go back to spending or wasting time with humans, lol, just kidding.
