Art Journal - Pencil Drawing | Whispers of Beauty

Good day, #HiveWorld! I hope everyone is in the pink of health and enjoying the day.

I'd like to share with you my new hobby. It's been a source of solace for me since I lost my son. I'm still processing my grief, and I appreciate your patience and understanding.

Whispers of Beauty
For a novice like myself, drawing a face requires a lot of labor. Female faces can be more challenging to draw since they have less prominent facial features and fewer well-defined lines to depict the form of the face. For this reason, I don't try to sketch a woman's entire face until I have mastered it over time. To be honest, I am having difficulty, but I am not the type of person to give up in stride or become disheartened quickly. Through consistent practice and sketching, until I mastered the technique, I was able to greatly enhance my artistic abilities.

Lately, as I was surfing the net I came across a tutorial on a portrait of a woman. I studied each detail and practiced until I got the technique which am sure was also taught when I was in the university as a Fine Arts student but I was not eager to learn.😊

In my sketch, I depicted an elegant woman exuding sophistication with her fashionable and polished appearance.

When I start doing a portrait or a drawing of a face, I tend to put the person in a very unrealistic position. I have learned that instead of putting the person at eye level, looking directly at me, I tried a variation of that pose. I practiced drawing the person as if they had bent their head down, looked at the floor, moved it to the right or the left, or tilted it. I used a reference photo to draw a person in a realistic position when I didn’t want to draw a face that was looking straight at the viewer. I learned techniques that I had not learned when I was a Fine Arts student because I was not interested in learning as I was focused on my other field of interest.

I am pleased with the way my drawing has turned out. Now, it's time for me to gently smudge the lady's face using a delicate piece of toilet paper or a soft cotton ball to blend and soften the pencil marks. Once that's done, I'll grab my eraser and enjoy the process of carefully removing the initial guidelines.

There's a common notion that you have to be good at drawing to enjoy it. However, being an artist requires only the ability to think creatively. People can be judgmental of one another, but the best thing about being an artist is that there is no right or wrong in the work you make.

I am passionate about sketching because it offers me a great sense of freedom. Each time I pick up a pencil and sketch, I am endowed with the capacity to create or destroy anything I imagine, and this sensation of empowerment is simply remarkable.
