Yes, they seem like gnats, very small. I noticed there are fewer recently, maybe it's colder. I have been using nematodes to feed my lawn because there are a lot of leatherjackets, next time I'll know to spray some on the plants as well. Thanks for the advice

Yes, they look like little mosquitoes.
Try using nematodes. If the larvae's cycle is disrupted, they won't develop and that will be the end of the mosquitoes.
When I buy potting soil, I put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 50-90 degrees to prepare it and kill any larvae, as they are usually already in the bag of potting soil I buy. I hope you have good luck with this method and I am excited to see how your gardening year turns out.
