Hello everyone! I want to share our real experience about planting, harvesting, and selling lemongrass on our farm.
I decided to plant lemongrass because I needed something easy to manage and no cost for financing as long as you have seedlings to plant. As a farmer and a mother, I don’t always have time to check plants every day. Lemongrass is low maintenance. Even if you don’t monitor it all the time, it still grows well.

I only planted a small area using extra roots we had. I just placed them on the side of the farm. I watered them when I had time, and sometimes I let the rain do the job. After a few weeks, I saw that they were growing healthy thick and green.

After a 4 months, it was ready for harvest. That’s when I realized it could also be a source of income. Some buyers started coming directly to our farm, especially those who cook lechon. They need lemongrass for aroma and flavor, so they prefer fresh ones.

Before, last December, we were selling at 15 pesos per kilo. But now, we adjusted the price to 20 pesos per kilo because the cost of basic goods has increased. Everything is getting more expensive, so we also need to adjust little by little. Even with the new price, our buyers still continue to purchase because they know the quality is fresh and straight from the farm.
Another thing I noticed is that lemongrass helps reduce mosquitoes. Before, we had a lot of mosquitoes, especially in the afternoon because we are in the side of a river. But when we planted more lemongrass, they became fewer. It’s not totally gone, but there is a big difference. It made our place more comfortable, especially for my child.

Lemongrass also has many uses. It can be used in cooking, and some people make tea from it. Many say it’s good for the body. For me, what matters most is that it is practical it can be used at home, sold for income, and helps improve the surroundings.

Now, I plan to plant more. I saw that after four months, we can harvest again. It’s not just one time income. As long as we take care of it, we can continue harvesting. That’s why it’s a good option for farmers who want extra income without too much effort.

Thank you for reading my story! This is my owned picture, the Lead photo was edited in Canva. This is not a big business, but it is a big help. From a small start, it became something steady for us.
Sometimes, we don’t need complicated crops. Simple ones that grow easily and have demand are already enough. For me, that is what lemongrass is on our farm. Have a nice day!
