To my ever-dear friends in the HIVE-BR community,
My warmest greetings!
The moment of hope has arrived! After experiencing a truly memorable setback, especially because our expectations were so high, we have finally managed to overcome the loss of the flowers on the Arabica coffee plant we have at home. Not a single fruit held on; they all fell off, and for many months the plant withered. I even began to believe it would not survive the winter.

Fortunately, we managed to adjust the plant's position, as it is kept indoors. I adjusted its exposure to sunlight, increased its weekly watering, and it stabilized. So much so that it has now produced an unexpected bloom!
I was told that coffee plants have flowers simply as a biological inheritance, since they do not need to be pollinated. I heard this from an agronomist, and I am not going to Google it to find out whether it is true. He also said that each flowering is a one-time event, and once a branch has flowered, it will no longer produce anything at that node. In other words, the spot where the fruit develops will not produce again, so the branch grows longer and develops new nodes, where another bloom may or may not appear. Strange, isn't it? It reminds me of a banana plant.

Here are the three flowers that may or may not develop into fruits. This plant has never produced any, so we cannot be sure it really is an Arabica coffee plant. After all, plant sellers call everything "coffee," and we had to accept it as it was or go without one. This photo was taken on October 2.

In this photo, taken on October 7, we can already see the first flower in full bloom. Its main characteristic is its five white petals.

This MACRO photo was one of the few times I have used this feature, but it clearly shows that we can see the flower's pollen, which is supposedly just an accessory. If this flower eventually develops into a fruit, we will have our first harvest, and then we will have to figure out how to process it into a product that will probably yield, at most, a tiny cup of coffee!
So, let's keep our fingers crossed! If this doesn't happen, we will probably give up on trying to keep this coffee plant in a pot.

Coisa estranha, me lembra bananeira.
