Bengali literature has always been rich in mysteries, thrillers and stories of strange twists and turns of the human mind. In that continuity, “Prohelika” written by Nazim Ud Daula is a wonderful addition. As the name of the book suggests, it is shrouded in mystery, where the reader gradually enters a strange world, and new questions and answers are found in each chapter. This is a popular thriller novel which is the first book in the ‘Detective Mansur’ series. It is a mystery and adventure genre book.
Nazim Ud Daula’s novel ‘Prohelika’ revolves around the lives of three main characters, whose destinies are intertwined through a mysterious novel. It is a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that can keep the reader hooked till the last page. The story of the novel “Prohelika” is a mix of mystery and psychology. From the beginning, there is an unknown uneasiness in the story, which keeps the reader hooked. The characters are full of dilemmas, fears, love and revenge, just like in real life. Each chapter hints at a new mystery, which is gradually revealed.
Among the three main characters in the story, one is a detective who wanted to be a stand-up comedian, but by a twist of fate he became a police officer. (This is 'Detective Mansoor') along with another writer who took up the pen to forget the pain of losing a loved one and became a best-selling thriller writer by chance. And the last one is a psychopath who roams the streets of the city and brutally murders underprivileged children whenever he gets the chance. The paths of these three people meet based on a novel called "Gully Boy". One mystery after another is created, and before one is solved, two more pop up! To unravel all the mysteries, one must find one person, whose real name no one knows and this pseudonym is his 'puzzle'.
While reading “Prahelika”, the reader takes part in a kind of mental game. The mystery hidden behind each incident makes him think. The suspense of the story is maintained till the end, which is the main feature of a successful thriller novel. If you are a mystery lover, like thrillers and psychological novels, then this book is a must-read for you. Along with this, if you like mystery, detective and psychological thrillers and are looking for a book to finish in one sitting, ‘Prahelika’ can be a good choice for them. This is the beginning of Nazim Ud Daula’s popular ‘Detective Mansur’ series. It will not only entertain, but also make you think deeply about the mental complexities of people.
Nazim Ud Daula’s “Prahelika” is undoubtedly a significant addition to contemporary Bengali literature. The book keeps the reader hooked from the beginning to the end, and it becomes difficult to put the book down until you reach the last page.
