Splinterlands: Building a Gold Foil Brawl deck

GF Deck.jpg

Hey everyone, welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, it's a Sunday today and like every day off I like to start my day with a cup of coffee in front of my PC doing Splinterlands related things, and this morning the brawl frays for both of the guilds I'm managing needed to be filled, before a brawl starts I always like to check if everyone joined and if not, put them in to their frays, we kinda all have our own spots so I just made a list who goes where to make things easier, the most important thing is our main guild, NFG Club - Legion 1, but Legion II is also getting more active again with new players I'm helping to start their Splinterlands career smoothly, so when I was filling the frays for Legion II, which is just a low level tier 1 guild by the way, I came to the conclusion that the upper half was easy to get filled but the bottom not so much!

The bottom is where the Gold Foil frays are, and I'm with two alt accounts in this guild to keep things a little more active until there's enough active players to keep things going, but I guess like most guilds this will be difficult for a while, finding active, dedicated players, and enough of them.

So, on a whim I decided the best thing I could do is to build a Gold Foil Bronze deck to fill the lowest GF brawl fray with, this account was once started by my daughter over three years ago but when the game evolved and got more complex she lost interest in it, so I'm using it now.

Having two really active accounts myself, I figured I could get a long way by seeing what Gold Foil cards I already owned, some of them even unused and buy the ones I was missing with some DEC and HIVE I had on the side from blogging earnings...

Managing decks is another activity in the Splinterverse and is a nice things to do I think, it's just very time consuming - it took me about two hours! 😅

I'm sharing how I did this step by step just for fun but also for new players to see how they can do this themselves, because building a deck as a new player can be challenging, and just start buying packs isn't the best way to go in my opinion - best to select cards one by one from the secondary market just as I did.

So, the first thing I did was to check on Peakmonsters.com and use the Gold Foil filters to check my two own accounts for unused cards I had I could delegate to this account, which can be done pretty quick by using the filter to display Gold Foil cards only.

image.png

This way I had a good overview of what I already owned and I started selecting the cards I wasn't using to delegate them to this alt account in one action

image.png

Once I selected everything I wanted I clicked the icon market by the green arrow on the picture below, and then selected 'others' to delegate them to @mightyluna, that's my alt account.

I did this once for both of my accounts and then logged in to the splinterlands game with my alt account to see what I was missing, you can easily do this by selecting 'items - cards' and then select 'all cards' to the left of your account name instead of default option which is on 'playable'.

I can choose which cards I want to see by using the filters on the left, so I started with Chaos Legion to later add it with some older cards since I want to fill a Gold Foil Bronze Wild Fray, but Chaos Legion is cheaper to start with.

I have to admit though, it was a bit more expensive than I thought when I started this! 😅

gf deck 2.png

As you could have seen in the picture above this one, I was missing Lava Spider and Radiated Brute so I started with those, I'm buying my cards at Aqualis Market because this marketplace gives me the most fee rebate and burns some DEC on every purchase, which is great for getting the DEC value back to peg long term, so it's a win - win.

gf deck 3.png

I did this manually for every single card I needed (hence why it's time consuming) and because I'm buying the cards with my main account, I then needed to refresh the peakmonsters site to display my new bought card so I could delegate it to my alt account.

Tip: for security, make it a good habbit to LOCK the cards your planning to keep for the long term, by locking them you can't accidentally burn, transfer or sell them and in case of a security breach your cards can't be transferred by anyone with access to your account.
You can choose how many days you want to lock your card from 1 to 30 days, once locked you need to wait to amount of days you choose to unlock the card before you can sell or transfer it, you can still delegate or rent a locked card to someone else!

I think it would make sense to have an ingame notification when a card is starting it's unlock period so you could see any actions on your account sooner.

Once I went from the common Gold Foil cards to the rare's, the prices already started to increase but it's still fine, 80 cents for a nice little life leecher is fine with me and a must have I think.
Notice there are only FIVE cards in the market (well.. only four now!) so the liquidity for some cards is really really low!

gf deck 5.png

So this is just a part of the list of my buying spree!

For the more expensive cards I thought about if it's 'need to have' or 'nice to have' and I made bid buys on peakmonsters if the cards I wanted where pretty expensive like the Revealer which is need to have I think but as you can see it's $3.65 on the market right now, so I want to make a bid buy for cards like these, to hopefully be able to buy it for a lower price with a little patience.

image.png

So, I got to peakmonsters, select 'buy cards' indicated by the green arrow in the picture below and type in the name of the card I'm looking for, 'Revealer' in the search box indicated by the red arrow.
The highest bid at that point was $2.70 so I already made a bid for $3.00 but for this post I'll go trough the process step by step.

image.png

Making BIDS is not a guarantee you're going to buy the card, and you need patience, you can be outbid by another player or maybe no one is willing to sell the card to you for your desired price, you can however save some money using this option.

So, click on the $ amount above the 'High Bid' text as indicated by the picture below to see all bids on the card.

image.png

When you have clicked, a new drop down menu will open, displaying all bids.

image.png

Before I made my bid, the $2.70 bid was the highest, so just let's pretend my bid isn't there yet for the sake of this post. When I see the previous bid for 6 cards isn't filled at all, not ever one card is sold this is an indication for me no one is willing to sell this low, so my bid needs to be higher, not just by 1 or 2 cents.

Click on 'Make Bid' indicated by the green arrow in the picture below.

image.png

A new window opens in which you can make your bid, in this case my bid is $3.00 and I only want 1 card, so 1 BCX of it, so after I put the bid amount, I click 'confirm' and my bid will be registered.
Now it's only waiting for someone to hopefully sell it to me! 😁

image.png

When I was done with the Chaos Legion cards, I looked at the price of some older cards that are really nice like Sandworm and Sea Monster which I both bought 😍

gf deck 7.png

So, I actually used up all available liquid funds I had on my account 😅 so I need to wait a while until more blog post earnings get paid out, let's do a ranked battle to test my new cool Gold Foil deck!

gf deck 8.png

This account is still in low bronze, I don't think I have ever battled with a full Gold Foil team! 😍 pretty nice!

So, this 'whim' costed me about $30 so far with about $20 - 30 extra still waiting for more funds to arrive in bid buys to expand this deck so I can win more battles in the Brawls, more than I anticipated when I started but that's ok 😇

I hope you like my post and hopefully this can be used as a guide by newer players to give insight on how to start building your own deck when you like to OWN your assets instead of renting them from other players and making them earn instead of us 😉 but of course both ways have their pros and cons.

Wow, impressive move... Next stop silver and gold, then it will get more expensive 🤣.
