Splinterlands - Discovering Beta

Hello Splinterfans!

For a few months now I have been trying to build up my Beta card collection. On my alt MacGuiver I am trying to collect a level 1 of all the Splinterlands regular cards and recently turned my attention to Beta cards.

This is because I have been playing the Fray where you can play Alpha and Beta cards and this would also give me more advantage to have more cards to choose from.

Sadly I wasn't on Hive when Splinterlands launched and therefore didn't have much of a chance to collect any of the early edtion alpha or beta cards and had no idea what monsters were used and how the gameplay was. Since playing the fray using the Beta cards, I have discovered a totally new game compared to what we see in the current wild and modern leagues.

Gone are the very powerful monsters with many abilities or huge health and shield. It seems tactically choosing and placing your cards has more impact based on their lower abilities and health and has made for lots of fun games in the fray.

Even so, when I started to play this fray, I suffered some bad losses with so few cards and experience, but over time my results have started to get better. I am now checkin each week for some missing beta cards that I don't have any try to snap them up.

The great thing about buying level 1 regular cards is that they don't usually cost so much compared to my main account playing in the gold league. However, some of the best cards can still be expensive if they are rare.

This week I have bought 2 beta water summoners for my deck and hope this will give me more opportunities and chances when battling with my beta cards. The most fun for me is playing these old style rounds in the frays and discovering the new (older) cards that were used.

With adding my new summoners, my level 1 summoner collection is growing and this is also giving me more opportunities in the wild league with more summoners and monsters to choose from. So far I have 7 beta summoners, so there are still a few more to get, but I have at least 1 from all the splinters now.

Before, playing wild without many of the older cards was quite difficult, despite the new powerful cards, but seems to get easier once you get a few of the key older cards.

So far I have collected 39 of the beta edition monsters and hope to add more soon. Some of my favorites are Wood Nymph, Mushroom Seer from the earth splinter. I also like Sea Monster and Goblin Mech when I can play them. One of the nice powerful ones is Crystal Werewolf with the silent ability.

I do sometimes miss the abilities of some of the cards that they get when leveled up, but that also makes the gameplay more fun too.

The great thing with Splinterlands is that you can play many different variations of the game and discover something new and exciting. I think the beta cards are pretty great and look forward to grow my collection.

Do you have a favorite Splinterlands card edtion?

I agree, the Alpha and Beta cards are awesome and some of my favorites to use. I too joined Splinterlands too late so I've had to pick them up bit by bit. Right now prices are pretty damn good, and rentals dirt cheap on most of them. It's really hard to play wild without these, I just wish I had been around to buy Valnamor!

I feel you there, it is good that we can grab bits and pieces here and there but Valnamor is very pricey! lol Would be great to have him in the collection. Rentals dirt cheap though which is pretty cool.

I'm very sure that you must have acquired a lot of SPS if you were on Hive when Splinterlands was launched

Thant's a nice collection! I mostly prefer new sets because they are cheap so it's easy to level up.

It’s interesting to see how the game has evolved over time, with different cards and abilities shaping the player’s experience and strategies.
