This week I will talk about a fascinating Battle Rule, the Rise of the Commons one:
As you can read we will be allowed to deploy only Common and Rare Monsters, but this rule doesn't affect the Summoners, unfortunately.
And this means that we could still meet, in the Modern Ranked, those amazingly OverPowered Summoners:
The only way to counter them is by taking advantage of their relatively high Mana Cost, using the extra Mana to deploy one or more of the numerous Common and Rare cards that can give our Monsters some buff:
Those six Monsters are just examples, as you can see, even if a card is not Epic or Legendary, it can be handy and can change the game.
Obviously, we need to be able to deploy them in the correct positions and to "predict" our Opponent's moves.
Unfortunately, there's nothing more to explain about this simple Battle Rule, so let's see my battle and let's analyze it:
ROUND 1:
As you can see, my Opponent chose a Byzantine Kitty Summoner, but with "only" 29 in Mana it only has been able to deploy four Monsters, while I've been able to fill all the possible spots.
The Legendary Summoner gives a triple boost:
As you can read, it is really powerful, and combined with my Opponent's two Supports should make its Tank un-killable.
The Meerdali Guardian has the Tank Heal ability so it will cure my Opponent's Tank during the turn, while the Scavo Hireling will restore the Tank's Armor stat every turn thanks to its Repair ability.
Furthermore, my Opponent's Tank, the Lemell Refugee has the Void Armor ability, so the Magic Attacks will hit its Armor instead of its Health stat.
Finally, it chose the Coastal Nymph as Damage Dealer, a Ranged Attacker with the Scattershot ability that will deal 3 physical damages hitting randomly every turn.
In my opinion, the last Monster my Opponent deployed was a mistake, because it cost 9 in Mana and it could have deployed more useful Monsters instead of one.
Luckily I studied my Opponent's previous battles and I noticed that it often used the Byzantine Kitty Summoner, so I decided to counter it in three different ways:
The Cursed Windeku and the Arachne Thug were able to inflict up to 7 damages per turn to my Opponent's Tank thanks to their abilities while the Silent Sha-vi thanks to its Sneak ability was able to target my Opponent's second line Monsters dealing 3 damages per turn and ignoring its Summoner's Tank Heal ability.
The Life Sapper thanks to its Life Leech ability would be able to stand longer, gaining one point in Health stat every time it hit an Opponent's Monster Health stat (I didn't expect my Opponent Tank), the Ravehood Warden with its Protect ability would give to all my Monsters a +2 in Armor stat, and the Carrion Shade as a simple bait (because I was expecting my Opponent to deploy Monsters with the Opportunity ability).
ROUND 2:
Just after one Round (even considering the Byzantine Kitty's Tank Heal ability) my Opponent's Monsters were unprotected and visibly weaker, while only my Tank was damaged.
ROUND 3:
After the second round thanks to the high damage that I was able to inflict on my Opponent's Tank, I already was on the spot, despite all my Opponent's Support Monsters.
ROUND 4:
And I won during the fourth round, especially considering that a Ranged attack Monster can't attack from the first position (unless it has a particular ability).
Final Considerations: Often, in Splinterlands, the Legendary Summoners make the difference between a victory and a defeat, in this case, thanks to the strategy I have been able to win because it is always important to consider all the Monsters' ability during each battle and not to simply rely on an amazing card, it has been a real Rise of the Commons!
