Yay! Thank God it's Friday, I know a lot of people are always eager and excited for the weekend, as we get to take a break from work, and also spend more quality time with family.

This weekend, we will be celebrating Mirabelle's 4th birthday. She is my friend's daughter and has a close age to my daughter, who is her best friend. They were born the same year and have less than a month difference between them, since my daughter's birthday is next month.

For her birthday this year, her mother asked if I can make her a pretty dress on a very low budget since school just started and most funds has gone into payment of school fee, I understand her, since i'm also faced with the same situation, I told her not to worry about the funds dress, since birthday dresses are my special gifts to anyone around me.

Thankfully, I had some colourful chantilly lace, and just had to buy an extra yard and a half of a different colour, to bring to life the dress I had in mind for Mirabelle. Since it's her fourth birthday, I got inspired to make a four-layered dress, and this is wishing her a happy birthday and may her years be long and colourful as her pretty dress.

So without further ado, let's get right into the making process.

Materials used

• chantily lace in three colours

• A satin fabric used as a lining

• matching coloured thread

• Zipper

Cutting And Sewing Process

• I started by drafting the upper side of the dress using the fuchsia pink chantilly. The front has a V-neckline, while the back is just a small, rounded neckline

• Next, I cut out the lining part of the upper bodice, but this was made using an off-the-shoulder pattern, and the front has a sweetheart neckline

• Continuing, I turned and joined the chantily with its lining part and also joined the sides of the upper bodice

• Moving on, I cut out two flare pattern pieces, one would serve as the main flare, where I pleated the chantilly on, while the other served as the inner lining flare

• Here, I started by gathering and stitching the baby pink chantilly on the upper side of the flare.

• Followed by the fuchsia pink

• Then, I finally completed it with an extra two layers of the magenta coloured chantilly.

• I also cut out the sleeve pattern, which I sewed around both armhole areas of the dress

• And finally sewed a zipper at the back of the dress. Mirabel's 4-layered birthday dress is ready. You should see the look of excitement on her face when she saw her new dress; it was so heartwarming to behold.
