By working towards removing dams, tribes are able to restore rivers to their natural state. Some dams are as old as 100-200 years old and have stood in the way for many plants, fish, birds and all types of animals to thrive as they normally would naturally.
On August 28 2024, Construction crews removed the top of the cofferdam that was left of Iron Gate Dam allowing the Klamath River to run in its original path for the first time in nearly a century!
This was a big win for the local tribes and for nature!
