Introvert Talks - When Transparency Gets A Little Too Transparent

"Introvert Talks" is meant to be a new initiative or theme, where I myself as an introvert, just talk about reflections and thoughts about my life, or maybe share more personal stuff. :)

This is my weekly post under this "Introvert Talks" theme and let's see where it takes me and us.

Hive is finally going up, and somehow my first thought wasn't “yay”, but “wait, everyone can see how much I have?”

It was just less than 1 month ago where I was talking about the movement in the price of Hive, and how it was probably a good time to start thinking and planning on what each of us should do in the event there are further increases in Hive. Of course, nothing guaranteed, but that's what the nature of plans are for, to know what to do rationally just in case something happens. You can see the post here.

And now, look where we are at! For the first time since not sure when, Hive is actually at USD 0.06! I know this probably sounds very low still for those who have been active in the community, or have actively bought at much higher levels, but the optimist in me prefers to see things in a positive light and this definitely is a pleasant surprise!

That said, the overthinking mindset in me also started to wonder if some of the transparent data displayed on the blockchain is actually a good thing. No doubt, transparency is always a good word to most people, but does it have its negative side too?

In case some of you do not know, one can actually see everyone's Hive Wallet to see how much Hive, HBD, Layer 2 tokens, etc they have, and a quick look at Hive Wallet, it shows that I have an estimated value of slightly above USD 2k. Nowhere compared to the whale, but still a pretty decent amount that is worth weeks or months of one's living expenses depending on which part of the world one lives in.

So, if (another BIG if) the price of Hive continues to go up, this number will continue to increase. And the eventual question is, at what point do I start to get a little uneasy "flaunting" the values of my Hive Wallet for everyone to see. It's like displaying a bank account balance, I mean if I had 2,000 in my bank account, I wouldn't mind showing or telling others, but if that number was much much bigger, would I be comfortable disclosing it? Probably not.

But on Hive, it's kind of "we don't have a choice" because anyone can go to "https://peakd.com/@username/wallet" and you can see whoever's wallet. In fact, there are already some users who have a huge amount of Hive, and correspondingly, an extremely high account value at the moment. I wonder if they are okay with this, or have just accepted it given that this is the nature of the blockchain.

I guess the "mitigant" at least for myself is I choose to remain "faceless" so there is some level of anonymity, but there will always be people who will know me in real life. But anyway, at my current 2k account value, I don't think anyone cares. So I am probably overthinking much way in advance, and if that day actually comes if I somehow become, say a millionaire on Hive or something, maybe it's a happy problem. :P
