"Introvert Talks" is meant to be a new initiative or theme, where I myself as an introvert, just talk about reflections and thoughts about my life, or maybe share more personal stuff. :)
This is my weekly post under this "Introvert Talks" theme and let's see where it takes me and us.
Do older people still celebrate birthdays?
This is the question I pondered about this year. Context is, I just celebrated my birthday earlier this month - I shall not disclose the exact date for confidential reasons hehe. As for my age, I am in late 30s and the intelligent ones can probably deduce the exact number.
Having celebrated my birthday for more than 30+ times in my lifetime, I somewhat felt that birthdays have lost their novelty. Imagine going through the same occasion for 30+ times (doesn't necessarily have to be birthdays), there has to be a threshold where we sort of lose some interest and not be so excited as the initial few times. Or am I the only one to think like this? Oops.
Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy this special day, and enjoy receiving the sweet messages from friends and loved ones, and the catch ups over nice food, but to me, this can be done on any time in the year and it doesn't have to be done as part of the "birthday" celebrations.
Anyway, for this year, it was a quiet yet happy birthday for me. And somehow, I feel like I do enjoy being low profile about things, as compared to throwing parties and have big gatherings to mark this occasions. Just a small circle of people that matter to me, paired with some good food, is perfect for me. Presents are optional - as an adult, I feel that if I want something, I have the financial means to buy it for myself, and there's really no need for someone else to spend money on a gift. Ok, maybe I am being unconventional here again.
Curious to hear what people think on this topic as well. So that's all for my self talk post this time, ending off with a photo of one of my few "birthday meals" with a friend, whom I haven't caught up for about one year, which is always nice.
