I think we (collectively) doomed BTC when we invited Wall Street to come in. Now it is just another Wall Street asset and is highly correlated to everything that goes on there. We wanted to be rich, so we stabbed Satoshi in the back and invited in the devil, to use a few powerful images. So the self fullfilling prophecy is this: that we fear BTC is going to crash like tulips, but in our (again, not you or me, but collectively, or those who control the game; the whales in the midst) fear of BTC crashing and losing all our money, we invited in the very agent that will and is killing it.
