Let's be honest here... Post rewards are the main incentive for people to create content on HIVE... Because of that, the comment section was suffering for a long time, and along with engagement on the platform... As all these things are connected, I would say that the combination was (and still is) the main cause of the low retention rate on the platform... In the lack of (higher) rewards and having no other incentives, people would leave... Those who stayed have found the "other side" of the platform, which is somehow "invisible" for newbies...
Despite being a social media network, somehow people forget what is the main purpose, and the biggest value here on HIVE... It's not money, it's not rewards, it's not upvotes, it's not begging for attention... It's PEOPLE!
In a certain way, things are changing... As one of the good examples is our last show, where we talked with @friendlymoose about his @topcomment project... Comments are finally getting more "visibility", the comment section is buzzing more and more... Also, comments got an additional use case in Waves, Snaps, Threads, but that's another topic...
If the comment section is getting more importance, this could mean that we are finally getting more and more CONSUMERS on HIVE... One of the main criticisms of HIVE was that it's a chain with content that nobody consumes... And if we want to be honest with ourselves, it was the case in the past... It's getting better, but we need a bit more time and improvements to make to get there... I saw some great ideas about better content search for our HIVE frontends, helping out those posts that are engaging and add value to readers...
"value to readers..." We are again at the beginning... The million-dollar question... What is valuable content? Let's keep that topic for some other occasion and try to focus on simpler questions, starting from ourselves... If we check out with ourselves, what we read, what we consume, maybe we can get to some conclusions about what we need to create (and consume) more...
We are different... We consume different things... There is no "universal" content that fixes them all, something that everyone likes to read/consume... But, instead of creating content that nobody consumes, maybe we should try to adapt, or adapt our content to be "suitable" to readers... Not saying to change the topic, but to change the approach, and the way in presenting it...
Some people think that we should create more content about HIVE, others would like to see more financial posts, others travel blogs, garden updates, etc. Let's share with others what we would like to see more of on HIVE? What kind of content do you consume? Maybe someone would like to be your friend, but they don't know what your interests are, what do you have in common... Let's connect and try to engage on topics that we REALLY CARE about, and not that others would like us to care...
So, let's talk about it... Let's talk about the topics that you would like to see more on HIVE? Let's talk about the type of content that you like more, short or long, photos or videos, text or audio, etc.
How was the last show? As I already mentioned, we had a special guest in the last show, as @FriendlyMoose came to hang out with us, presenting his @TopComment project! It was super fun, with a lot of engagement, questions, and plenty of useful stuff that was shared... It was great to see people from the audience asking questions and sharing their point of view about meaningful comments and rewarding engagement! If you missed the show, you can check out the recap and recording!
For all the participants, there are some LEN tokens for attending the show and some special rewards (in Ecency POINTS) for those who are the bravest and come on the voice during the show!!! Don't forget to follow, reblog, and browse my Hivepage to stay connected with all the great stuff!
Only a better mechanism for rewarding comments, a topcomment project or similar, can attract people to engage more qualitatively, to avoid the situation of 7 views
(with my comment, there will be that many comments), as opposed to a hundred times more votes 🙂
We are here for those votes, but I am sad when I see that a post I made for an hour, was viewed by a total of three of them ...
That's true! I don't want to "comfort" you, but it was even worse in the past... I don't know why people always try to "cheat" the system... I mean, I do understand the "quick-rich" mentality, but if someone doesn't want to read my post, they don't have to comment or vote either...
Unfortunately, I'm lately battling with free time and I spend just a short time on consuming content, but when I do, I try to leave a valuable comment and show appreciation to the author...
Back to the content "type", the truth is that people tend to create "specific" comments where they want to get more upvotes (monetary value), and not the content that they would LIKE to post... Which makes that content even more "spammy" and not attractive for engagement, not just for consumers, but also for a creator as he/she isn't interested in the topic in the first place...
Shit.. this is a long comment... sorry... lol... too much ranting... 😃
The most important fate is that the system has been misunderstood for wealth creation rather than it's original purpose. I See a community were the newbies see the big whales as kings eating on the the high table, as the newbie wants to gain publicity and join the kings to wine at the table.
Most people was introduced to this HIVE community as a placeholder for wealth creation rather than it arm, thus makes sense when you see them running around to gain success in any possible way.
When you talks about comments engaging, you hardly find newbie post getting engaged by most whales or newbies rather people goes were the can gain rewards or publicity.
I still believe to get more engagement in comments is when you see rewards coming up under comments.
And also more changes in the orientation given to the newbies before unboarding them.
This is a very mature and on-spot comment about engagement and behavior of newbies on HIVE... We made a mistake promoting HIVE as a place for earning money by blogging, without mentioning the best side, the connections, communities, etc. But it looks like you grasped the point pretty early...
May I ask how you find HIVE? Who onboarded you? He/she did a great job!
I was introduced to hive by a group of hive traders called airhwark-project, I was given the orientation to work before you earn. So got a different view of hive, not a quick earning platform or community.
So I started from exploring the community to know how it works, I discovered for you to succeed you need people.
I can to meet some friends who supported me throw guidance, people like
@ravenmus1c
@thekittygirl
I'm just few months here but I'm learning so much about the community.
I have seen @ecency community too as boosting ground.
I love to learn new things always and open to learning. That's simple summary of my motivation here.

Personally, I'm saddened when the number of views on a post doesn't correspond to the number of votes. While it's true that there's a great incentive to receive appreciation for the content, it's also gratifying to find that people read and share it as well. A kind comment, criticism, or advice always encourages exchange and the long-term development of communities and of each one in particular. I believe it's vital that comments be substantive and informative. Thank you for bringing up this necessary topic.
I do like to receive upvotes, but the main purpose of my posts is to add value to the reader (or at least, I'm trying to do that)... If they find it useful, they will reward it with an upvote; if not, well, I deserve that too 😃
Comparing myself with some other authors and their rewards has no sense... We are all different and create different content, engage with different people, etc.
Exactly, my friend. The main purpose should be to create connections from the content that we are able to communicate, impact others, touch souls. If we are rewarded for it, that's great, but there is already a reward in a fee of gratitude for what we do, and that enriches the spirit and feeds us.
Personally I think everyone should create whatever they feel comfortable with. If not, it begins to seem or look like a job rather than fun. For example we don't get tired of having fun but we get tired of working. We cannot all universally agree when the idea of value comes into contention in respite to content creation.
For me, I'm close to some people that I don't enjoy their content, and there are people I'm not familiar with, but I consume their content because I like it.
Definitely, it's better to create content about stuff that you like... It is easily noticed when you do so... A lot more value is there, and a lot more passion... 😉
What do you consume the most? crypto-related content? Short or long form content?
Ohh I prefer any form of content whether it's long or short. However, for the past two years I've found myself tilting towards crypto contents because I strictly wanted to understand how the market works.
However, I'm mostly aligned to more attention to a regular creator if they have great photos or videos they made in their posts
Comments are a great way to see the engagement happen, and I am glad to see comment rewarder reward them. I remember the abh engagement contests, and it pushed me to do more comments than usual too during my first few years on Hive.
Yeah, I liked the Engagement league too! It's a pity that it's not active anymore, but people indeed tried to cheat there too... lol...
I suppose you will not attend the show, so it would be great to get the answer to the main question from you here... What kind of content do you consume?
I'll be there, I can't wait to find out what kind of content people are producing. I think you already know what kind of content I consume. Daily content, travel and game posts 🎮
Woohoo... See you at the show!!
This could be a nice introduction for your topic on Friday, about the favorite authors... ;)
I mainly read crypto content , especially Defi related, not as such Hive related.
Thanks for your input!! I like DeFi, too! 😃
As far as I have seen here, the more author upvotes the comments, the he/she gets more comments.
Hehehehe... I do upvote people who are leaving meaningful comments to my posts, but I don't upvote those who leave comments without any relevance to the content... Or, at least I'm trying to give something back to people who spend time on my posts, those who "consume" the content!
I totally agree with the fact that comments are getting more visibility as someone who is keen on engagements, I have benefitted from the commentrewarder initiative and it’s really encouraging for active engagers
It's great to see that we have 2 projects that are focused on rewarding comments!
Btw., what kind of content do you consume?
As a newbie
I basically go around consuming and engaging but I love nature and photography contents a lot and some contents that teach about hive cos I learn a lot from them

I think we have already more than enough photo, finance, food... We lack some serious science news, geopolitics and interesting news from the world
Oh, that's an interesting take! Thanks for answering the main question!
I was expecting people to ask for more "funny" stuff, reality show news, and other yellow pages content... 😃
I'm now even more curious to see how people will respond in the show... 🤔
Oh well a 'hmmm' community would be good too for fun stuff like that
Thanks for the support!
