I'm so overdue with my Hive Open Days recap post... And I will be a little more overdue... I got sick during the event, and unfortunately, that keeps me most of the time far from the keyboard and HIVE... The good news is that I'm slowly moving forward, small steps... Before giving some sweet love to all those great participants who were at the event, I will do what I do best... Give some hard love... 🙂 I know... It's not comfortable to get it, but it can be useful...

I had this topic in mind for a couple of days, but I couldn't sit and write about it... Then, I saw that I had left one Ecency tab open for "later consumption," so it was time to read it... It was the latest post by @godfish about Generative AI... After reading it, I realized how our ideas are so similar, yet opposite to each other... He was writing about AI, and I would like to write about humans...
I have to go back to #HODAlicante again, as that was the "turning point." At the event, we had a fantastic presentation by @palomap3, where she covered the "first steps" to make on HIVE; How to create an introduction post, shared some "dos and don'ts" for content creation, which should help immensely for new users! I wish I had something like that when I joined this place!
Also, I have noticed that most of the "public talk" was more about the community, about the bonds that connect people here, about the real "social aspect" of the chain... And to be honest, I was happy to see that... Also, in some of my talks, "on the spot", I shared some of the stories about "value beyond HIVE", which the event itself was the best proof! People around the world gather at the same place to enjoy in the company of their HIVE friends...
And then, a few days after the event, I open HIVE and see an AI-generated post by a FEW of newbies onboarded during the event! 😱 I don't know where we lost them during the event, and from where they got that, but it happened again... It's not the first time, and it will not be the last time... It's not THEIR fault, it's OUR fault... We are doing the same thing over and over again... We PITCH HIVE as a "blogging platform where you are paid for creating posts"...
Now tell me one thing... Is HIVE really just that? I don't know... To be honest, I got a bit demotivated and discouraged by this occurrence... I mean, I saw it many times, but I thought we left it behind, we moved forward... I know that HIVE is more than just a blockchain where you can write text into the blocks... But, selling it as a "blogging platform" is like trying to sell Blogger.com as something new in 2026...
In the biggest part, HIVE is a social media platform, where you can do the same as you do in any other social network... Accept for additional rewards (a bonus), it's the freaking same thing! It's so EASY! While Paloma's presentation was needed, it should be common sense that everything she said... It's kind of devastating that it needed to be said...
Why the f%#$ would you use AI for content creation on HIVE? It's a social network, we want to SOCIALIZE with YOU, and not with an AI! How can we socialize with each other if we exchange AI stories with each other? Unfortunately, I see the same thing happening all around, not just HIVE, not just other social media, but also in all ways of communication... And then we wonder why there is so much misunderstanding, why nobody listens to each other, why we don't enjoy others' company...
Part of my comment on Godfish's post was:
AI can be good, but unfortunately, it doesn't have hands... yet... It can't give you its shoulder to lean on...
Maybe we need AI to make us more efficient, more knowledgeable, but we also need a human touch, to make us humans... And in the end, just a few questions for those who "don't know how to start on HIVE"...
When you talk to your child, parents, or family, do you use AI to talk instead of you?
When your friend asks you for advice, do you talk from the heart, or do you give them a link to ChatGPT?
How do you make friends and relationships? Ask AI to deliver them to your address?
Sorry for the sarcasm, but I'm a bit fed up with the need for posts like this... Maybe I'm crazy and weird, but I truly felt a connection with my HIVE friends during the event, before and after... For me, some of them are like part of the family, and I can't wait to meet them again and have a good time...
What are your thoughts on this topic? Is HIVE only a blogging platform? Am I inventing something that doesn't exist? Did HIVE help you grow as a person, or was it just a waste of time? Please let me know in the comment section...

It's odd because it signals this fear that we've got nothing worth saying (hence the need to generate content with AI, I guess). I wonder when we started thinking that. I guess there's a lot of pressure on a newbie, though (I remember I used to try these generic sounding posts, human-written though, when I first started on the blockchain too).
Because...you like others in the community, but that's becausee you know them. What if you don't like me because you don't yet know me? How much can I afford to show? Maybe the message we use to promote Hive should be less "we can pay you" and more "we want to know you".

I wouldn't say it's just pressure on a newbie... It's a trend... People have that feeling of being powerless, as they are constantly pushed down by the media, society, etc. If you are not part of "the club", you are worthless, and your opinion is useless... I remember 3-4 years ago, here on the chain, during the C19 thing, there was a group of people talking exactly about this topic... About giving BACK POWER to the people!

Absolutely. I'm having the same internal debate over social media - there's a tendency to do what everyone else is doing because that must work, but then again, does anyone really need to see the same oversaturated trend rehashed yet again? Isn't it more exciting to see someone being real? I don't know about the other platforms, but on Hive, for sure.
I think we should just be ourselves, cliche though that is. I don't know about you, but I definitely didn't stay on Hive (or as it was, steem) because people were pulling at me to stay, but because I found one or two people patient enough to listen. If you ask me, that's what newbies really need.

I’m no AI tee-totaler. I use it 20-30 times a day. Here are just three use cases of help I received from AI today—
Creating a DropBox folder that can receive a recording of my @buzzparty Hive Open Days #hodalicante talk & the concert I played with the beautiful and talented @mipiano.
Using Notion to publish the @creativeworkhour Discord invite on a stable vanity url using Bullet.
Converting a screen shot of the live CWH session along with images of my studio and @chris-uk’s well-crafted prompt to create a vibe-accurate image of us sharing our work today.
So, I do AI in my Hive-related work.
And as someone with a learning difference that makes writing an arduous task indeed, I would love to delegate my writing to the more capable hands of AI. But I don’t. They’re not.
People read me or leave me because I’m real. Velveteen Rabbit real.
Worry not about being “late” with the Hive Open Days post. I’ll be even later. 😂 But I say this to both of us and the rest of our friends that were with us in Alicante whose words also have yet to come—
Our timing is perfect. A steady thoughtful stream of posts from our #hod-alicante friends to the Hive community is better than a front-loaded stack of them.

Exactly! You like me or not! That's how it is... I have a feeling that AI likes everyone... It always tries to please you when you ask something, or ask for an opinion... That's not REAL! We need friends to grow together, but we also need "enemies" to help us with the same cause... To grow!
After writing those big-ass recaps of events that I previously attended, I do feel pressure and "obligation" to do this one... Being stubborn and always doing the opposite, I will maybe skip this one... 🙂

I understand your frustration, I struggle with her every day. It is sad the number of people who are not able to avoid using AI even in their presentation posts.
I'm glad you're recovering, I hope at HiveFest we have more time to talk about things like this and much more. The slide shared by @livinguktaiwan with your words is the perfect summary of what Hive and its community mean to me. The people who compose it.

Unfortunately, it's not just about presentation posts, but all the others too... Again, it's not their fault, it's ours... We don't "sell" HIVE as a social media, but rather a "blogging platform"... If we were to monetize CONTENT, a blogging platform would make sense, but we are trying to monetize NETWORK EFFECT, which crucial part of socializing... And for that, we need connections, bonds, networking... which isn't made from AI-content, but personal views, opinions, discussion...

I don't use AI on Hive, I translate my text on google translate and correct it myself, so how it turns out - it's mine 🙂
The images are already 100% mine, and I post them with minimal editing.
You could be right about that AI "invitation"...
And regarding translation... I wouldn't say that the result is an "AI creation", it is a transcription of YOUR words... It's the same as when someone translates a book into another language... The book is still written by the author, and not the translator...
Yes, yes, that's why I say I don't use AI tools. I've never put my words through the AI to redo, because I didn't like how it sounded after the AI correction (probably 5 times better, but, no thanks, not my words).
I don't like to use ai, barely use it rarely at work for dumb code I can't be arsed to do alone, but that's it, it's not fun to use it, it's just a puppet mimicking humans... Only a self aware ai would be interesting to interact with but we don't even know if we will ever be able to make it
Don't get me wrong, I do use AI for certain things, but I definitely do not use it "on my friends," and don't pretend I'm something that AI created... It's just not respectful toward others...
As my love mentioned, you can get generic, AI-like content from actual humans too. Which is honestly even sadder: Someone spends 30 minutes writing what AI can spit out in 3 seconds.
Anyway, the human touch still matters here on Hive (and hopefully in real life too). Same goes for having an authentic voice, as I wrote in my post.
I really hope so too... If not, we are screwed...

I don't know... There is an old Serbian poem that talks about builders building a castle during the day, while evil witches are destroying it during the night... That's how I feel sometimes... We are promoting community on one side, sharing personal stuff, connecting, while on the other side, others are selling a dream of big money, with 5K posts written by AI...
Anyway, maybe just my frustration with being sick is overreacting... 🙂

Yes, that could be true... But still, that's missing the whole point of HIVE... Anyway, we can only show by example, and show what's appreciated and what's not... The rest is on them...
