For this week prompt, I will go with number 1.

What is one thing a proper adult should confidently know how to do, but I am still figuring out?

For me, it is bargaining in the market. Or what we call "pricing".

I swear, a proper adult woman should be able to enter Wuse market, price pepper from 5000 to 1500 and walk away with confidence. But me? I cannot.

If the woman says pepper is 5000, I will say "Aunty please 4500". She will shout "Oya bring 4000". I will quickly pay and run away before she changes her mind. My mother will look at the small nylon and say "They cheated you again."

It is funny but stressful. I can design a book cover on my laptop for 3 hours without blinking. I can write a proposal. But put me in the market with women shouting, I will just be confused.

Last month was eye-opening for me. I went to buy fish. The man said 7000. I was already bringing money. One small mama beside me said "Give me that same fish 3000". And he gave her! Same fish! I stood there like mumu.

That day I realized, adulting is not about age. It is about all these small small things nobody taught us in school.

Now I am learning small small. I now go with my earpiece, so I can pretend I am on call and walk away if price is too much. It is my new strategy.
