What are your thoughts on school bullying? How would you address it? If you have children, what would be your best advice for your child if they were to become a victim of bullying, and what would you do?
I have always seen bullies as people who are very much insecured of their being, who takes pride in hurting someone else in other to be uplifted, i see it as an egotistic booster for them, which is very weird because who wants to hurt their fellow human just to gain some pleasure for few minutes that will lead to everlasting trauma for both them and whoever they are hurting.
My younger sister was a victim of school bullying, funny enough it was not even from her own classmates or age group but a class mate of mine which is very weird. A grown up teenager bullying a child who is alot more younger than he is.
Back then I too was still a child, even as a teenager, still trying to navigate the world to see how everyone looks and fews it from different angles.
When I found out about how he bullies her, makes her cry and put that fear of her being able to come to my class to ask for something, I took matters into my own hands... guess what? I fought him hands down without looking back, I'm sorry but still to this day, I'm proud of myself because he never dared to go close to her again until he himself left the school.
Looking back today, if I where to give advice to my children concerning the act of bullying,
I would tell my kids to walk away silently from that bully of a classmate, but if they are the aggressive kind of bully, they should always report to the teacher or an adult within the administrative body of the school.
I said this because I was actually flogged due to the fight I had with my classmate for my sister, and I was looked upon as someone who does not let things out but allows it to explode on it's own.
My kids should come home and report to me exactly what happened in school, and I will definitely take it upon myself to visit that school and have a talk with the bullies parents.
Worst case scenario if the parents and teachers don't have enough capacity to stop this, as I have heard of cases like these, I would remove my children from that school, hoping they don't encounter such bullies again.
Thank you for stopping by.
When my children were diagnosed with Dyslexia I knew the public school environment would have been merciless to them as it was to me. Being pro-active I enrolled them into a private Christian school that specialized in child learning problems and had an ironclad policy on bullying. It costed me more than a third of my pension but the results were well worth it. Thank God!
