I am currently reading "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. It’s my second time reading this beautiful book, as it says a great deal about God and humanity.
The book is about understanding our purpose and reason for living in this life, which is for the pleasure of God. Literally, everyone is created for God’s purpose, and that’s one way we could live a meaningful life.
I am a Christian who believes in God and wants to make sure I don’t derail from the purpose of my living, which is to do the will of God.
If I were to answer the question posed by @merit.ahama, it’s nothing other than this: the reason for my living is to do the will of God. Purpose, to me, isn’t something I am trying to chase but rather one in which I am aligning with daily.
Life without a purpose or reason can be meaningless, and if one is living without walking in the right direction, then it means such a person is just occupying space here on earth.
Apart from the family and friends I have around me, they are also part of my reason for living because I am meant to love them, care for them, and ensure the light of God is pointed at them.
So, literally, I am living to ensure I glorify God in whatever I am doing. This gives a deeper meaning to even the smallest parts of my day.
What keeps me moving is nothing but one thing: God still wants me living, and every day I wake up to another day, I know it’s another chance for me to fulfil the will of God for that day. So, every time I wake up, I ask in my prayer: Lord, what do you want me to do today? Because I don’t want to walk in my own way.
I was doing my devotion earlier this morning, and the verse was from Matthew 16:24, where Jesus was saying to His disciples and to us in our contemporary times that if anyone wants to come after Him, such a person must give up their own way, take up their cross, and follow Him.
Emphasis on “must,” which means once an individual has decided to follow Christ, it’s not about them anymore but about Christ. You see, that word “must” means to surrender and not something done in your own convenience. It’s a sacrifice!
What keeps me moving forward each day? It is the fact that I have another opportunity to do the right thing, which I must not fail to do, else it’s a sin according to James 4:17. So, it’s not a routine for me every day to keep moving but a responsibility and an opportunity to live for God.
