Administration is a fascinating discipline because the results are visible at first glance and can be measured and analyzed to determine whether what was executed aligns with what was planned, and to make changes or corrections as necessary.

During my high school years, I chose the Business Administration track, which gave me good tools to have notions of what managing a company entails.

And although I had the basic theoretical knowledge, the conditions never arose to be able to start my own business due to lack of capital.

A couple of years ago I decided to start a small venture, without capital, without credit, but with the support of my parents, which is invaluable.

I started a small neighborhood convenience store. I still remember that all I had was a small table on which I displayed a few items "borrowed" from the household groceries.

At the beginning, people didn't even take the idea of buying seriously, given my scarce infrastructure, but over time sales started happening, which indicated there was growth potential.

We began to have more items for sale, and my father at 75 years old started building a stall with recycled materials. First it was a roof to shelter from the sun and rain. Over time it took shape and the structure was completed.

And as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I took out small loans (although quite abusive) to gradually expand the stock, since with daily sales it was difficult to maintain adequate stock, given the restrictions on receiving merchandise, as orders can only be received twice a week.

Today I can say that there has been growth, as we went from having just under 10 available items to having more than 150 different products.

While I am very grateful for what we have achieved, it is a business that only supplements my parents' pension, and given its geographical location it has no possibilities of increasing sales, at least with the neighborhood convenience store model.

But what I would really like to do if I had the necessary resources would be to dedicate myself to a non-profit organization, in two areas that need a lot of help in my country: the elderly and pets.

In this country, there is no State policy that ensures a dignified life for elderly people, much less for animals, which is serious negligence, since the percentage of workers in the informal economy who don't contribute to a social security and pension system is greater than 70%, which gives an idea of the problem.

So it would be a dream to be able to run a Home for the Elderly and an Animal Shelter. I think it would be a good combination, because in the few nursing homes for the elderly, there is always a lot of family abandonment, and loneliness at that age weighs much more heavily, and having at least one pet nearby would lighten it a bit.

Of course it's something difficult to accomplish, especially in this era in which my country is becoming a parliamentary dictatorship, managed by a "businessman," who is gradually reducing civil rights, even putting obstacles in the way of Non-Profit Organizations despite the fact that many are doing the work that the government should be doing.

But as the saying goes, nothing bad lasts 100 years, so maybe someday I can start a social project in the future.

La administración es una disciplina fascinante porque los resultados se ven a simple vista y pueden ser medidos y analizados, para determinar si lo ejecutado se ajusta a lo planeado, y realizar cambios o correcciones según sea necesario.

Durante mis años de secundaria elegí el bachillerato en Administración de Negocios, el cual me dio buenas herramientas para tener nociones de lo implica dirigir una empresa.

Y aunque tenía los conocimientos teóricos básicos, nunca se dieron las condiciones de poder iniciar un negocio propio por falta de capital.

Hace un par de años decidí empezar un pequeño emprendimiento, sin capital, sin crédito, pero con el apoyo de mis padres, que es invaluable.

Inicié una pequeña despensa de barrio, aún recuerdo que todo lo que tenía era una mesita en la que exponía unos cuántos artículos "prestados" de los víveres de la casa.

Al comienzo la gente ni siquiera tomaba en serio la idea de comprar, dada mi escasa infraestructura, pero con el tiempo se empezó a vender, lo cual indicó que había potencial de crecimiento.

Empezamos a tener más artículos a la venta, y mi padre a sus 75 años empezó a construir una casilla con materiales reciclados, primero fue un techo para resguardar del sol y de la lluvia. Con el tiempo tomó forma y se completó la estructura.

Y como dice el dicho, quien no arriesga no gana, tomé préstamos pequeños (aunque bastante abusivos) para ampliar de a poco el stock, ya que con las ventas diarias era difícil mantener un stock apropiado, dado a las restricciones en la recepción de mercaderías, ya que solo 2 veces a la semana se pueden recibir los pedidos.

Al día de hoy puedo decir que hubo un crecimiento, ya que pasamos de tener poco menos de 10 items disponibles a tener más de 150 productos diferentes.

Si bien estoy muy agradecida con lo que hemos logrado, es un negocio que solo complementa la pensión de mis padres, y dada su ubicación geográfica no tiene posibilidades de aumentar las ventas, al menos con el modelo de despensa de barrio.

Pero lo que realmente quisiera hacer si tuviera los recursos necesarios sería dedicarme a una organización sin fines de lucro, en dos ámbitos que necesitan de mucha ayuda en mi país: ancianos y mascotas.

En este país, no existe una política de Estado que asegure una vida digna a las personas ancianas, y mucho menos a los animales, lo cual es una grave negligencia, ya que el porcentaje de trabajadores en negro que no aportan a un sistema de seguridad social y pensiones es mayor al 70%, lo cual da una idea del problema.

Así es que sería un sueño poder dirigir un Hogar de Ancianos y un Refugio de Animales. Creo que sería una buena combinación, porque en los contados asilos de ancianos, siempre hay mucho abandono familiar, y la soledad a esa edad pesa mucho más, y tener al menos una mascota cerca la aligeraría un poco.

Por supuesto es algo difícil de realizar, en especial en esta época en la que mi país se está convirtiendo en una dictadura parlamentaria, manejada por un "empresario", que está reduciendo los derechos civiles poco a poco, poniendo trabas incluso a las Organizaciones Sin Fines de Lucro apesar de que muchas están realizando el trabajo que debería hacer el gobierno.

Pero como dice el dicho, no hay mal que dure 100 años así que tal vez algún día pueda iniciar un proyecto social en el futuro.
