Nothing wrong with recognizing our trained rescuers and specialist the risk their lives entering dangerously hazardous situations to rescue injured or trapped survivors. They deserve our acknowledgment for their compassion and deep sense of duty in their kind of work.
Meanwhile, should a similar disaster strikes my city. My duty as a retired nurse is to volunteer and report for duty at my nearby local hospital to be an extra pair of hands and provide auxiliary relief for the regular staff so at least they can get their breaks. Our hospitals are currently under-staffed.

I remember my country of origing giving a national honour and other things to a female doctor who lost her life saving lives during the ebola outbreak.
Though I was happy that such rewards came forth, it would have been better assuming she was alive to witness such event.
Such support takes a lot of courage hence I am excited to hear that you would volunteer to partner with the hospital to render assistance if such incident occurs around you.
