The Book That Impacted Me More - LOH #285

In a world where love has grown cold, relationships have gone sour, mostly due to lack of proper communication and understanding. We need proper knowledge and understanding of what triggers love whether in a romantic or platonic relationship. I've read and listened to some audio books, seen so many movies about love and relationships but none has impacted my life like “The 5 love languages” did.

The book is a practical guide to love. It teaches that so many relationships struggle today because the partners don't seem to know what their spouse's love language is. Which has led to break up, separation or even made some to live like strangers in their homes. It talks about how broken relationships could be mended if one could study what one's spouse's love language is and apply it.

The book also teaches that one whose love language is quality time may not appreciate receiving gifts no matter how much it costs. That is not to say that the person is ungrateful. It simply means that the person values being spent quality time with more than gifts. So it is with one whose love language is an act of service, if you shower them with a basket full of positive affirmations or praises without assisting them, it means nothing to them.

After listening to this audio book(don't have the hard copy yet) I began to see things with different lenses, especially in my personal relationship with others. I learned that I don't have to measure my love language with the same yardstick as that of my partner. I understood that people perceive love differently which is ok. I took time to study the love language of everyone close to me, because it doesn't have to be my husband alone but with people generally, for better coexistence.

I could still see with my mind's eye the surprise look on my daughter's face the very first day I praised her after doing the dishes (even though it's her duty), because I hardly do that before then. Beyond the look, I could read her mind. That tells me that every child likes to be commended or appreciated for every act of kindness they give, whether it's their routine duty or not. That, in turn, would make them do more and even better. I've become addicted to this book, hahaha, and I like it.

My encounter with this book has helped me improve a lot in so many ways, even in my relationship with my family and others. That is why I can confidently recommend it to any one who desires a turnaround in their personal and interpersonal relationships with others in whatever capacity it is. I can say it's a must read for everyone.

Thanks for stopping by! 💚

It's one thing to read a book, it's another to apply the knowledge gained from reading it. It's beautiful that you've started applying it especially with your personal relationship, your daughter needed to hear that from you.
