Say no to bullying;#286

Bullying is a very serious thing and no child should go through it. The type of emotional and mental impact it has is not good and should not be treated lightly at all. I watch a lot of movies that has to do with bullying and the scenes are nothing to write home about.

One may think that it’s only in movies that bullying happens but it’s actually an experience of some children especially in school. I for one have been a victim of bullying during my secondary school days and it wasn’t a funny experience.

I have always been small in stature and was almost the smallest in class during my secondary school days and I went to a boarding house where there’s no parental protection.

There was just this girl in my class that just didn’t like me for no reason. She couldn’t just wait to snap at me at every given opportunity. She didn’t beat me as that’s not allowed in the school but she was verbally bullying me.

She made me uncomfortable that I couldn’t stay where she was and always avoided our paths crossing. She was just a pain in my buttocks. Up till today I still remember her full names because of the mark she left. A mark that’s remembered but not for good.

I keep wondering where she is now or what has become of her. She was nothing but a big bully. I would advise that parents and teachers not take bullying for granted. There should be a section of the school time table where it’s solely addressed and some consequences or punishment should be attached to those who bully others.

These bullies strive in the fact that their victim is calm or quiet most times and shys away from confrontation. The truth is that they try to cover up their inadequacies and emptiness by making others feel bad.

Left for me, these bulllies should be give the same aura they give. By experience I’ve learnt that they aren’t actually so strong and feed on the cowardness of their victim. If they can be matched face to face or give the same medicine they give others, you would see that they always retreat.

If I had had a child who is a victim of bullying, I would first advise him to seek peace and verbal negotiation with any one trying to bully him. If it doesn’t work, he should not hesitate to stand up and fight for himself. Most times the bullies always back down when they are challenged or confronted by their victim.

On the other hand I would contact the school management to look into the situation and put the bully in place because no child deserves to pass through the mental, emotional and psychological trauma these bullies put people through.

Bullying should not be tolerated no matter what and should be addressed with immediate effect in situations where it’s evident.
