We do not live in a universe where there is one, certain, "real" world out there.
This is one of the big problems with Modern Molecular Science. They assume there is one real world out there, that is separate from them. That's existence can be studied in isolation, without being affected from the observation.
Scott Adams, comic artist and writer of Dilbert, has a theory of "two movie screens". That the neo-liberals and the neo-conservatives are watching two different movies. So, their base understanding, even the facts, are different to these two separate groups.
And really, you listen to any neo-liberal talking about conservatives, you get a line of litany that is completely false. They appear to honestly believe that Trump is Hitler. And the conservatives want to round up Gays and put them in camps.
They believe that Row V Wade was overturned because "they hate women", and want to control their bodies. All completely false, but the neo-liberals do not understand letting each state decide.
Interestingly, conservatives, in turn, can state quite clearly how the neo-liberals will respond on any topic. However, most conservatives cannot comprehend how neo-liberals think that way.
How is reality so different for these two groups of people? And this difference will probably heat up and stop being a cold war.
If you were able to look into people's minds, like sitting in a theater, watching their life. And then hopped between different theaters, you would notice that each person's reality is different.
You can easily show that what they notice is different. However, what is more subtle is each person's upbringing, their previous experiences color what they see. So, person 1's movie may be very different from person 2's movie, even though they are filmed on the same "set".
I will add to this that people do not see the same thing. Like comparing a color blind person to a person who see's color. Really, each person sees colors a little bit different, but their are details in each person's movie that are different.
I will state a big shift, so maybe you can understand the little shift.
The Fay exist. The live on earth. All over earth. And usually live where humans live for the same reason that humans settled there. But, we don't see them (for the most part). If we cut down a forest, the forest where they are dies. And many of them are quite upset with us for this.
The Fay live on earth. Just a separate set of frequencies. (Now how do we expect NASA to go out and discover new life, new civilizations when they can't even see life/civilizations on this planet) You might call it a parallel world, but our science has messed that up so much that i won't use those words.
Now, you could say the same thing exists between a small town farmer and a city business man. Their worlds are totally different.
And, the world between neo-liberals and conservatives are very different. So different that the two may not be able to speak to each other much longer. (no shared language, no shared experience)
In order for a city to work, even a community, you need enough conservatives for stability, and enough liberals to keep things new and moving forward.
What is happening now is that the people who can, are leaving the large cities. Unfortunately, the people who do, are the people who know how to do. Plumbers, electricians, all the construction workers are usually very conservative. (it is their world. They deal with physical things, that have to stay just as they are to work) Also the wealthy. Those who made their own money. These people are often very rooted in reality. They see how things work, and they make them work for them.
When these people leave (kinda called brain drain) there is nothing left to support the city. You get gangs/turf warfare. You get people fighting over food. All the infrastructure breaks down.
What remains is the neo-liberals, who life is "starbucks". They rarely could go out and start their own garden, they don't even see that as part of their reality. Many believe vegetables come from the store.
So, what will happen is that there becomes two worlds. And i really mean, two different worlds. Like 1st world and 3rd world. But happening in the same country.
People will get together with like minded people. Their friends, their tribe, their "family". And they will pool their mental and physical abilities to make a viable and working society.
They will grown their own food. They will sew their own clothes. They will manufacture a product for trade with other groups. Like the Amish, but with 3D printers and automated watering.
This will happen with people that love to build things first. Meaning, all those people who are escaping from cities. They will pave the way, but they will also pull out the rug from under cities. (actually more like, they were holding up the city, and then just let go and left)
Galts Gulch is a neat idea, for a story, but the reality is not such.
If all the men took a day off, the power, water and sewer would stop working. And it would take months, years, to restore it. If there was any will left to want to restore it.
So, we are going to end up with future-like self-sustaining communities, and we will have a lot of people left in a city that is crumbling around them.
Two very different world. Two very different realities. Like the Eloi and the Morlocks different.
These two worlds may not even interact.
Like a major fire happens in a city, disrupting everything, including food shipments. And the small community out in the woods has no idea that anything happened. There is no longer any ties that bind. The worlds no longer overlap.
Neo-liberal/conservative, Repulsivkins/Dumbocraps, Party A/Party B no longer have any meaning.
And the "civil" war that happened will seem kinda lame and useless. We will learn that we are happier living with our own kind (our tribe) and politics is an inter-tribe thing, where each tribe does what they want on their own, and so politics is just inter-tribe trading.
