Week on Hive

In the Spotlight
Last Friday, after my last check on the news in the morning(ish), the location and period for Hive Fest 10 was announced by RoelandP. In fact, he made the announcement publicly live at Hive Creator Days in Graz at the same time as publishing it on-chain.
Hive Fest 10 will be hosted in the exotic Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in the period 15-19 October, so there are a little over 5 months until then to prepare for Hivers who want and can participate.
@louis88 - who has been in Malaysia once - is hyped by the location and can't wait to get there. In the meantime, he's developing a small photo tool for participants.
Want to talk about Hive Fest 10 and / or about Hive Creator Days from Graz? You may want to participate to Hive Humpday Hangout in Ecency discord later today at 5pm UTC where my friend @ph1102 invites anyone who wants/can attend almost every week.
Marketing / Awareness / Branding / Meetings
Looks like Splinterlands got the first version of their new Google app out. They say it still needs some tweaks, but they want to finish it by the time general sale for Conclave Arcana starts, which is only a few days away.
In the meantime, only 4 days until the presale is over. Looks like most cards have been finalized and loaded on the Mavericks server. You can see a list of them and the new abilities here. No guarantees there won't be any changes until the packs could be opened on May 13th. If you want to see Conclave Arcana cards in action, here's a recording.
There is also a new Card Packs page in Splinterlands which lists all packs that have been sold by Splinterlands since the game was launched. It's interesting to note that except Chaos Legion and Riftwatchers, all packs seem to have a higher price in the NCM than the one they were sold for, some way higher.
DigiByte, a PoW blockchain that has been around since 2014 and which shares Hive's focus on freedom and decentralization and the fact that there is no company behind them, and which looks like quite a few Hive OGs remember using in their early crypto history, made a Hive account through Inleo and a Hive community and became active. This is their intro post.
@crimsonclad got involved (she is also the mod on their new community), and they had an X space which I discovered this morning but didn't listen to it yet.
Governance / Development / Dapps / Education
We know the current reputation system is more or less a function of the author rewards one earned over time. Not exactly that, but that's a close approximation of what's going on.
Recently, there have been various public discussions for improving it, concretized with a proposed whitepaper of a human-curated reputation. Another relevant post is here. And also, this Jabber Talkie episode.
What we have to be careful when introducing any new system would be to attempt to make it more relevant, easy to understand, and not easily gameable. Probably very difficult to have all these 3 goals focused on with the same energy and effectiveness.
More tools are added to HiveTools. What's even better is that some of them help users solve problems they faced, for which they couldn't find a solution using other tools or interfaces.
Games
If you are a Moon player, you're probably wondering what are the plans for the future. Looks like we'll find out more on May 12th, but we have some info until then too (note that I didn't have the chance to listen to the recording at the end yet).
One of the newest games on the Arcade Colony platform, StakeHouse Den - an online social casino type of card game - had a pack presale and now entered general sale. At the same time, purchased packs can now be opened and a few casino games can be tested. More details can be found on the Arcade Colony discord.
It appears that a few changes are coming to Crownrend. Some sooner, others later. But it is encouraging to see development and adaptation to changing conditions from the "real world", once the game was launched and running for a while.
Week in the Crypto World
BTC is at 97k on the background of coming high-level talks between United States and China on the trade war this week-end. We have no idea what the outcome of the talks will be, but it can't be worse than it is. Practically, as it is now, it is very unlikely that anything is moving between the US and China on the trade side.
TCY is a new token on ThorChain launched on May 5th, slated to address the default of ThorFi lending and savers platform at the beginning of the year. 10% of the fees collected on Thorchain will go toward the new token, which can be claimed by the investors who had funds locked in ThorFi when it collapsed. I am not one of them, but heard quite a bit about it lately. Here's the official post from Thorchain, I think.

Cheers for the updates. The DigiByte thing could be good if their community join up. We need people to help them make that happen.
I don't play a lot of games, but we need them. They ought to work well on phones as that is what most people use.

Yep. If they come, maybe we can find ways to keep them around, which I'm not sure we've done well with the Dashers who joined.
We absolutely do. I'll be seeing how good or poor the game experience for some of our games is on mobile for the following few days.
I helped the DigiByte team make their account, and we're working on a number of activations- ideally, the community we built is actually FOR their users to check out and potentially come chat in. Not everyone is a content creator, but they are a diaspora of like minded souls, so the idea is that since they don't necessarily have a single place to talk, this is another one where they can create a knowledge repository and then hopefully also make some connections that introduces their users to web3 native social tools.
I hope it works out. Building communities is what we need and it will need some guidance. People need a good experience when they sign up.

The reputation talk is interesting. I do agree that the current system is lacking.
I am also interested in seeing what Crownrend does. I don't have high stats but looking at the comment on that post, some people are making a ton of DENAR every single hour...
I still think it would be good to have a way to combine those rep numbers into one that represents a general reputation, so that someone can have an idea at a glance where someone stands. To make a comparison with Moon, which some people on Hive play, there you receive points for building, for researching, for your fleet and from the alliance too, but the ranking position given by total points is one, unless you choose to delve deeper and look into other details.
I am not making a ton of DENAR there either, but am interested to see how it develops. Without any development, most games have zero chance of surviving.
Thanks for the shoutout!! 🙏
We had a fantastic show, and I hope the recording will be available soon! (At least it works; it just needs a bit of compressing and editing. 😃)
Awesome! 😀 I have no rush... I'll probably be able to get back to more "complex" Hive stuff late on Sunday or next week.

Hmm why one would play casino games here when you can play on online normal sites? I don't get it
Digibyte should bring their users here, just 1 account sharing their news isn't really useful
I'm not sure. Maybe because one of the tokens of the Arcade Colony ecosystem can be used/earned instead of money. Probably because no one can ban or take your earnings away, although I don't know the exact set of possibilities in Arcade Colony for the platform/game operators.
I agree. That's what I think it's being hoped for. But sharing news on Hive, if more would do it has its impact, because people would start looking by themselves at the platforms where news are shared onto.
this tbh- either way, it's a learning curve both for our users and for theirs when it comes to how we use the ecosystem, and who we are actually building for :) encouraging the DigiByte main account to create a space here where some of their users may engage is a bonus, especially because in some ways their community is even more decentralized than ours in some ways, especially their overall comms.
Working through where there may be good tech integration fits has been a big part of this week and we drew a lot of engagement on outside platforms. We have a lot we're trying to see if we can make stick together... but that being said, even one account sharing news (especially from a different blockchain) is a way to open more doors to the outside for our social platforms, gives us feedback about useability from other crypto lovers who haven't been immersed in what it's like to grow alongside the evolution of dapps here (v valuable to our builders, if we're being honest), and also forces us to think more about the fact that we've built communication tools for EVERYONE in the hopes that it will give them something they need and draw them in.
What will we do when everyone starts coming, even if it is one at a time? Or if they're not Hive fanatics and just see and think of our social platforms as more socials for them to use? Call them unhelpful or not useful because they weren't enough or didn't do what we expected or wanted them to? Good food for thought.

If splinterlands manage to get the app working really well, it'll be a plus. I also think they can add some sort of incentives for downloading the app, I think they can get paid by Google for a certain threshold of downloads or am I wrong?
I don't know anything about any incentives to download the app or if Google pays them if they have a certain threshold of downloads.
But it will be a big plus for Splinterlands if they have a good app, knowing that it's a game easily playable on mobile during a couple of minutes of free time.
Well, I consider the availability of the app as a way that should generate income for the game. I mostly play on web and unless the site is down, I still prefer to play on web then on app, but yes, this is good to have multiple access to play the game.
That’s right! The hive fest is around the corner. Malaysia is a great place and even though I’m not going, I look forward to how it will go.
So many new updates. This is really informative, thanks for sharing.
There is time to have more developments on Hive until Hive Fest 10... Thanks for your comment!
Yeah. A lot of developments actually.
It’s my pleasure!
