The movie Waterworld that was made in 1995, many people found it boring or exaggerated, but for me, it is a completely different cinematic experience. The movie tells the story of a future world where the entire Earth has turned into water due to the melting of the ice, and our lives have become ships and places floating in an endless sea.
The first thing that I liked about the movie is its idea. I mean, imagine the planet Earth has become a big sea, and everyone is trying to survive in any way! For me, this is a brilliant concept and opens the door to unconventional imaginations. The movie was also filmed on a very large scale at the time, to the point that they built real sets in the middle of the sea. Of course, this raised the costs of the movie insanely, and people at the time thought it was "overpriced", but for me, I felt that this effort deserved appreciation.
I really liked Kevin Costner's character, "The Sailor". He is the character who tries to balance between surviving alone and helping people. It's true that at first he was selfish, but his character development was very enjoyable. Other than that, the idea that he's half human and half sea creature was unique and different, and we haven't seen anything like that a lot in movies.
The movie also has good action. It may not be as action-packed as superhero movies these days, but the sea chases and dangerous scenes were very enjoyable. Also, the soundtrack was strong and made me feel adventurous.
I know that some people think the story is superficial or that the movie is too long, but if you look at it from a different perspective, you'll find that it's trying to create a new and unique world. For me, Waterworld is a movie that deserves a second chance. Maybe not everyone will like it, but if you like movies that talk about a different world and unconventional experiences, you'll definitely like it.
In the end, Waterworld is not just a movie, it's a special experience in which a person explores the limits of his imagination and his ability to adapt to an impossible world.
A 1995 movie with this concept? Hmm. Makes me want to get a glimpse of its trailer or something. It incorporates a pattern that we see in modern day movies leaving me wondering how the characters, plot, and settings were displayed.
