After an arduous investigation in the island to look for materials or some means which will allow me to return to civilization I lay down in the hammock that I found in the shelter to enjoy the only VHS movie that was in the improvised library next to the most improvised and coolest TV/VCR with coconuts that I have seen and that works with a solar energy storage, for this I must first take the device out of the shelter to recharge it.
To my surprise I find myself with the film The Blues Brothers, which in my country Venezuela was known as Los Hermanos Caradura. This film is a musical party, a buddie movie, a destroyer movie, an absolute comedy classic.
Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, James Brown, Chaka Khan and John Lee Hooker participated in this legendary musical comedy starring two musicians, Jake Blues (John Belushi) and Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd), who must reunite their old band to raise money for the Catholic orphanage where they grew up.
Along the way they face local and state police, an angry girlfriend, some evil Illinois Nazis, the U.S. Army, a country music bar crowd and their angry band, Swat, firefighters and military police.

I remember clearly that it was 1980, and when I was 12 years old there were many movies that I could not see due to censorship, which is why I had to look older to enter the theaters. I wore insoles in my high heels to look taller, and I even wore two jackets, here, they let me into the movie theater, not because of my costume, but because they had sold only five tickets. If I am not mistaken it was the second time that I went alone to a movie theater and coincidentally my first cinematographic incursion was also in this movie theater called: Broadway.
Apart from the good dose of action that this film gave me, it brought me closer to the musical genres of Blues and Soul, which directly influenced my favorite musical genre: Rock.
I love this movie that became an absolute classic of comedy full of black music stars and for that reason it was initially boycotted with the crude reason that it would not interest white audiences.
Its soundtrack and musical numbers are spectacular, that music penetrates your ears and manages to conquer your soul, I think it achieves its goal by treating with respect the great musicians who participate in the film.
James Brown.
John Lee Hooker.
Aretha Franklin.
Cab Calloway.
Ray Charles.
Also appearing in the film are: Carrie Fisher, John Candy, Frank Oz (Jim Henson's collaborator on Sesame Street and The Muppets, later becoming a film director, and even Steven Spielberg.
John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were the perfect couple radiating light and joy throughout the film. is incredibly blinding. Plus the Blues Brothers Band was spectacular with musicians who by that time were already renowned Blues, Soul, Jazz and R&B artists.
This is one of the movies that has allowed me to clear my mind and open my senses to listen to Blues, Soul and R&B in more detail.
This film makes fun of institutions such as the Catholic Church, the Police, and even the Nazis for that irreverent humor every year I gave it a review and the film remained as fresh as when I saw it in 1980.
A curious fact that I learned in later years is that when the film was being shot, Pope John Paul II was in the city of Chicago at the time, so he went to the set to bless the protagonists.
For its content I think that the film has managed to be of historical interest as it made known to many in the world, (as in my case) culture and musical history.
Returning to my memories of the Broadway cinema, as was my habit, as the film was screened continuously, I managed to see it twice in a row.
Now I am on a deserted island sad and just wishing to get out of here, however I am accompanied by one of my favorite movies, which I could watch everyday as it lifts my mood and gives me strength to keep fighting and devise a way of escape. I have become so attached to this VHS and the CocoVision that I compare them to Tom Hanks' inseparable companion in The Shipwreck, the Wilson ball.
