RE: REVIEW: Scream (2022): Add this new term to your lexicon, REQUEL

Very nice write up - I can see you have a real appreciation for Scream and the series as a whole.

However, I've never shared that sentiment = Scream is the sole reason we have fast food style horror these days. It's as you say credited for bringing Horror back to the mainstream, well when it came out we all labled it as Trendy horror because of all the yuppie plebs who thought it was the second coming.

It was the safe way to do a horror movie in the already overly PC world of the mid to late 90s.

It made everything look too clean and unrealistic and that's carried over to every film in the series.

Take your pic here at the end , the hospital scene. It looks clean and unlived in. It almost looks like you could use it for a stage for the Masked Singer or some sort of similar show.

This is a paramount problem with movies in general yes, but in horror it's a crucial asthetic flaw. There's no more grit or attempt made at immersion.

Thanks for your review, =)

I'd love to see horror go back to the actual grindhouse and there are a few films that come out that really do this once in awhile. As for mainstream viewing you're right, there are lots films out in the marketplace that just have no bite for me at least. Most times I feel somewhat desensitized and that may be part of it.

Love that username of yours. Speaking of Hellraiser, what is up with the literal development hell of that series? Producing films to simply hold on the franchise is a necessary evil I suppose. The fact that Doug Bradley wasn't even in a few tells us volumes.

I adore the first and maybe part 2 but damn. That series haha

Thanks for the great comment!

Hey Homie!

With the Hellraiser franchise 2 things are Happening, a remake of the first movie and a tv series - Thats all I know, I hope they're good but I'm not holding my breath.

Grindhouse can still be a thing, in fact independent film can still have a thriving platform, just need to own the means of production and distribution. I think eventually this will occur, hopefully sooner than later.

PS....I liked the Hellraiser in space ....Its called Guilty Pleasures pal
