I think the reason why many of us don’t enjoy movies is because we watch it with too many expectations. We subconsciously watch it not to enjoy it, but to nitpick at it. So, what happens is that the film is barely two minutes in and we’re already judging. Like judging bad. And I can’t really blame anyone for that cause there’s a lot of crap out there on television now that is being masked as films. So, we’re already disgruntled without even giving it a chance. You may ask, what’s your point in all of this, and I think my point is that sometimes you need to leave your brain and sense of logic at the door to truly enjoy a movie, lol. Like these ones that made it here.
Set in ancient Egypt, a time when gods lived among mortals, King Osiris is killed by his envious brother, Set, on the coronation of his son, Horus. Set defeats Horus, gouges out his eyes and proclaims himself the new king, also indicating that passage to the afterlife will be based off of riches. A year of hardship and enslavement later, things are about to change with a rebellious woman and her lover in tow.
I actually enjoyed this movie even though the bad CGI was glaring and the fact that none of the so-called Egyptian gods was a person of colour, and even using British/Shakespearean English. I’m not going to lie; it could have done better in general, but I did enjoy the plot and maybe the fact that the gods’ blood was gold? It was a far stretch from Egyptian culture, but it still offered some much-needed entertainment.
Based on the television series of the same name and directed by Seth Gordon, this action/comedy film tells the story of Mitch Buchannon, a member of an elite lifeguard division in Emerald Bay, Florida. And like the series, he and his team mates try to find out the mystery behind certain deaths, rescuing lives and everything in between in a raunchy and comedic way.
Uhmm, what can I say? I liked this movie. Yeah, the lines were beyond cheesy and I wouldn’t even dare to utter the kind of humourous words these guys did even when I was in high school. But I don’t know guys. That in itself is quite enjoyable sometimes. You shut your brain and enjoy some good old plot with the single-minded shallowness of a teenage boy and you just ride with it. I guess the reason I enjoyed this movie was because I watched it very low expectations. So, I wasn’t disappointed. Just amused and entertained.
Jupiter Jones was destined for greatness as the signs of her birth revealed, but in reality, she is a made working in other people’s houses. However, her life changes when Caine, a genetically engineered hunter arrives earth to locate Jupiter and escort her to the destiny that awaits her. However, there are other people thirsty for Jupiter’s royal destiny. People she must defeat.
I nearly shuddered as the negative memories of this film kept rolling back. A lame name for the protagonist with an even lamer character that portrayed her being saved every 20 minutes. Not surprisingly uneventful with no show of power from her till the very end, even with her alien “royal ancestry.” And please don’t get me started on the stupid lines. I was genuinely concerned at some point. Like who really wrote this? But again, low expectations. So even though it has the most befuddling sci-fi script known to man, I still watched to the end and found it passable to an extent. Promising plot misfired and wasted once again.
So yeah, all of these movies were nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Picture in their respective years. I didn’t even know that was a thing. A brutal practice indeed, but I’d like to think it makes the directors more reflective and aware of what they put out there. I personally did not hate any of these movies, neither their storylines, but I could understand why they made it to the worst picture list. What do you think? Fair judgement?
