Think Like A Man

Hello and welcome everyone to Cine TV community. This is our first post for 2025, and I’m excited about all the amazing things happening to every one of us this year. I’m rooting deeply for the year, so I thought I would start with a film I quite enjoy. It’s a film everyone may actually enjoy but I think you may resonate with it more as a member of the Black community. Based on the book, "Act Like A Lady Think Like A Man," by Steve Harvey, here is:

Think Like A Man (2012)

Directed by Tim Story, the film follows four different storylines. The independent woman who is more or less her own man (Taraji P. Henson) and the dreamer boy (Michael Ealy); The single mom (Regina Hall) and the mama’s boy (Michael Hanover); The lady who wants the ring (Gabrielle Union) and the non-committed man (Jerry Ferrara) and finally, The faithful 90-day rule girl (Meagan Good) and the chronic player (Romany Malco). There is also the happy-go-lucky mutual friend who pretty much thinks he knows everything as far as relationships are concerned (Kevin Hart) but doesn’t exactly have his love life in order as well.

The connector in this is the fact that all four women have read the book, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like A Man,” by Steve Harvey, and they are set to follow its precepts to the tee. The problem arises when the men discover the book they’ve all been reading, and on a massive stroke of “intelligence” decide to play the player. What could possibly go wrong?

Why this film is one of my favourite films, as you may have guessed is because of the humour. This film was laced and laced with lots of humour that had me cackling. It’s been a while since I saw it but I doubt I’d laugh any less. It’s the brainless type of humour that came so easily with the year that it was created. People were far more carefree. These days, it’s more difficult to laugh about simple humour like this, probably because of how serious life seems to be but if you let loose and take most of the corny jokes at face value, you would find Think Like A Man very enjoyable.

When I was a lot less cynical, the whole premise that this film was based on was quite okay by me. Anyone who reads the book now, talk less of the film may actually find it sexist from the title down to the epilogue, but again, it is an enjoyable film if you don’t nitpick at everything you see.

I’m not sure which I preferred more between the first part and its sequel which is Think Like A Man Too, which was produced just two years after the first release. The latter certainly had more of a plot than the former, and the humour still felt unforced since everyone seemed to have chemistry with each other. The highlight of the second part as was the first was Kevin Hart who must have been in his element back then. All together a very enjoyable film that my sisters and I see once in a while when we just need a hearty, unburdened laugh.

Starting this year off with a light one and hoping that the rest of the year is reasonably light and filled with light-hearted laughter and happiness for us all. Happy New Year!
