This week is mostly going to be centered on a theme which will be revealed to you all in the next post. But I decided to start off strong with one of the movies that I greatly enjoyed while growing up. Mostly done with nostalgic films but this movie genuinely gave me a good time and spearing from Ocean’s 8 which is another worthy production, I thought to share this with you today.
So, this is basically a crime/comedy remaking of the Rat Pack film, Ocean’s 11 of 1960. The story follows the releasing of professional thief, Danny Ocean (George Clooney) from a prison in New Jersey. He reunites with his friend, Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) in Los Angeles and together, they travel to obtain financial backing from their wealthy friend, Tishkoff, to rob three casinos of 160 million dollars owned by Tishkoff’s biggest rival, Terry Benedict. They recruit eight accomplices and con men to help them carry out this multi-million-dollar heist.
Thrown in the mix of all of this is Tess Ocean (Julia Robert), who is Danny Ocean’s ex-wife and now Terry Benedict’s girlfriend. The stakes are high as these con men aim to carry out this operation and retrieve the money from Benedict’s heavily secured vault. Just how many obstacles will they face on the way.
I think I have to compliment the movie first of all for its choice of cast. Each actor exuded the perfect amount of class. From Andy Garcia in his impeccable suits all the way to Julia Roberts. There is a very charming way they conduct themselves that immediately ranks this movie as a top tier film. Each character was allowed to shine in their own witty way and the audacity they showcase even with the illegality of what they were doing is chef’s kiss.
To be honest, you may not see so much charm about this movie, especially because this storyline has been remade in several ways over the years with much higher improved tech stuff. But I don’t think it beats the class that is portrayed in Ocean’s Eleven even with the other parts of this trilogy. While you may not see anything outstanding about aspects of the film, it is more endearing because of the delivery which was executed perfectly. Everything put together and planned to the minutest detail, and even having a back-up plan for contingencies.
I remember the first time I watched this production and I was still quite young then. I imagined myself as a female version of Danny Ocean, and attempted my own mini heist with Mom’s jewelry set. As expected, I was caught and let me just say I had a personal beef with the entire cast for months, for making a heist look so easy, hehe.
Either way, I feel Ocean’s Eleven is the kind of watch so enjoyable, you don’t mind watching it several times and you would still enjoy it each time. Critics may pay attention to every single detail because as you would expect, there are a few lapses. But this is a movie you enjoy in the general sense of it, and I was glad to be able to relive the moment. Hope you enjoy!
