Last weekend, I sat down with two of my close friends to watch a film called Columbus (2017). None of us has watch it before. We just picked randomly because we were tired of watching action and comedy all the time. We wanted something calm and but not expecting what we saw
At first, we thought it would be boring. It was quietly Slow. But after a few minutes, we started paying much attention. And honestly, the silence was ease The movie gave us space to think. It wasn’t loud or trying too hard it just felt like real.
The story is about a young woman named Casey who lives in a small town called Columbus, Indiana. She loves architecture and wants to do more with her life, but she’s staying for her mom. Then there’s Jin, a Korean man whose dad is in the hospital. They meet and talk a lot about buildings, life, and things they feel but don’t always say all.
THE SCENE I LOVE
Scene 1 inside the Library
There’s a scene where Casey and Jin are standing inside this beautiful modern library. They talk about the design and how it makes them feel. We paused the movie to just look at the building it was really really nice. I liked how the movie made me notice the quiet beauty around me.
Scene 2 Casey in the Car
This scene hit me. Casey is alone in the car and starts crying. You can tell she’s tired of holding everything in. She loves her mom, but she’s also tired of always staying behind. It reminded me of people I know especially young ones who put their dreams aside for family and put themselves to sacrifice all.
Scene 3 The felt deep
Jin and Casey are outside, standing face to face each side of a car and talking. Not much happens, but it felt deep. They didn’t say big words, but you could feel the connection. It was one of those scenes where less is more or more is less.
We finished the movie feeling quiet but in a good way. We talked about life, dreams, and how we all feel stuck sometimes. Columbus isn’t a movie for everyone, but if you watch it with the right people, it stays with you.

This reminds me of a friend who puts everything aside to take care of her grandma. She cries in silence and I always admire her strength and love.
