Universities in Austria lost 78.5% of their followers after switching from X to Bluesky
Österreichische Universitäten haben im Schnitt 78.5% ihrer Follower verloren, als sie letztes Jahr von X auf Bluesky gewechselt sind.
Bei der Uni Wien ist der Rückgang etwas weniger stark, bei circa 70%, bei der TU Wien sogar fast bei 90%.
Denke, die Unis hätten auf X weiter posten und nicht die Aktivität aus ideologischen Gründen komplett einstellen sollen.
Was sagt ihr zum Rückgang der Follower? War zu erwarten, oder? Aufbau von Follower ist das Mühsamste auf Social Media und benötigt viel Zeit.

Austrian universities lost an average of 78.5% of their followers when they switched from X to Bluesky last year.
At the University of Vienna, the decline was slightly less severe, at around 70%, while at the Vienna University of Technology it was nearly 90%.
I think the universities should have continued posting on X rather than completely halting their activity for ideological reasons.
What do you think about the drop in followers? Was it to be expected? Building a following is the most tedious part of social media and takes a lot of time, right?

I think they should stay in X since it is more popular to the users

For me it is to be expected since some of the followers are still using X and they may have not noticed the switching

Das ist doch reine Moraldödelei… Wenn ich Informationen habe, die ich in die Welt bringen möchte, dann doch dort, wo ich Reichweite, aber auch eine gewisse Sicherheit habe. Bestimmt ist X eine Plattform, auf der linksliberale Inhalte häufiger unterdrückt, gelöscht etc. werden, als rechte. Aber trotzdem ist und bleibt es eine Plattform, und solange man nicht selbst von Zensur betroffen ist, kann man doch dort weiter aktiv bleiben. Es ist ja auch nicht so, als sei jeder Akteur der Exklusivität verpflichtet. Bluesky und X schließen sich nicht aus, sondern ergänzen sich. Sie ergänzen sich deshalb, weil ihre Nutzerschaft politisch aus so unterschiedlichen Lagern kommt.
Und natürlich stimme ich dem – wenn auch etwas scherzhaft gemeinten – Kommentar von @stayoutoftherz weitgehend zu. Natürlich wären auf Hive 99.9% der Follower weg – auch wenn hoffentlich viele so von Hive erstmals mitbekommen und uns beitreten würden. Aber Hive wäre eine super Ergänzung, wenn man sich digitale Unabhängigkeit schaffen möchte. Ich kenne mich mit Bluesky nicht aus, aber ich zweifle, dass es die selbe Zensurresistenz wie Hive hat :P

I think it's because it's filled mostly with one political side, and there isn't much to incentivize others to join the platform. So the user base just isn't that high.
