Instagram forces you to install their app to add a website to your user profile. Another reason why we need decentralized soical media.

Hab jetzt ein paar Profile für die neue @cryptospace77 hive app angelegt und dabei ist mir aufgefallen, wie kompliziert das Anlegen von neuen Profilen geworden ist.

Früher konnte man die Social-Media-Profile relativ einfach mit einem Usernamen und Passwort erstellen.

Heutzutage braucht man meistens eine E-Mail-Adresse, eine Telefonnummer und eine installierte Closed-Source-App auf dem Smartphone, um überhaupt ein Profil anlegen zu können.

Ist eine Art KYC, oder optimistisch gesehen ein Schutz vor Spam, Bot und KI-Agenten-Profilen.

Auf Instagram kann man in seinem Profil ohne App keine Website angeben. Zum Anlegen des Profils war auch WhatsApp notwendig.

Bei X ist es ähnlich, man braucht die App, um überhaupt ein neues Profil erstellen zu können.

Das sind alles weitere Gründe, warum dezentralisiertes Social Media wie hive oder nostr so wichtig sind.

I've just created a few profiles for the new @cryptospace77 hive app, and in the process I noticed how complicated it's become to create new profiles on traditional social media.

In the past, you could create social media profiles relatively easily with just a username and password.

Nowadays, you usually need an email address, a phone number, and a closed-source app installed on your smartphone just to be able to create a profile at all.

It’s a kind of KYC, or, looking on the bright side, a safeguard against spam, bots, and AI agent-generated profiles.

On Instagram, you can’t add a website to your profile without the app. WhatsApp was also required to create the profile.

It’s similar on X, you need the app just to create a new profile at all.

These are all additional reasons why decentralized social media platforms like hive or nostr are so important.
