EU vs X Round 2: US Trade Representative threatens EU companies, EU regulation specifically targeting US BigTech.

Der Streit wegen der 120 Millionen Euro Strafe gegen X geht in die nächste Runde.

X wurde wegen drei Verstößen gegen den DSA verurteilt, aber offiziell nicht wegen dem Nicht-Nachkommen von Zensuranfragen und der Offenlegung von User-Daten, sondern wegen drei banaleren Gründen, wie die blauen Häkchen, Transparenz bei Online-Werbung und die Bereitstellung von APIs.

Jetzt droht die US-Handelsvertretung mit Gegenmaßnahmen gegen europäische Firmen wie Accenture, SAP, Mistral oder Siemens, wenn die EU weiterhin US-Firmen diskriminieren würde.

Indirekt wirft die US-Administration der EU vor, dass sich die EU-Regulierung im Internet hauptsächlich gegen amerikanische Tech-Firmen richte.

Ganz falsch ist diese Sichtweise vielleicht nicht. Aus Mangel an europäischen Tech-Firmen, könnte tatsächlich der Eindruck entstehen, dass die EU besonders restriktiv gegen BigTech vorgehe, um mehr Kontrolle über die Online-Medien zu erlangen.

Auf der anderen Seite gilt die EU-Regulierung gegenüber allen Firmen, auch europäischen, und die EU schadet sich auch mit zu restriktiven und bürokratischen Regeln in erster Linie selbst.

Auch müssen sich EU-Firmen an amerikanische Gesetze halten, wenn sie dort tätig sind.

The dispute over the €120 million fine imposed on X is entering the next round.

X was convicted of three violations of the DSA, but not officially for failing to comply with EU censorship requests and disclose user data to EU authorities, but for three more trivial reasons, such as blue check marks, transparency in online advertising, and the provision of APIs.

Now the US Trade Representative is threatening countermeasures against European companies such as Accenture, SAP, Mistral, and Siemens if the EU continues to discriminate against US companies.

Indirectly, the US administration accuses the EU of targeting American tech companies in its internet regulations.

This view may not be entirely wrong. Given the lack of European tech companies, it could indeed appear that the EU is taking particularly restrictive action against BigTech in order to gain more control over social media.

On the other hand, EU regulations apply to all companies, including European ones, and the EU is primarily harming itself with overly restrictive and bureaucratic rules.

EU companies must also comply with US laws when operating there.
