EU introduces new tariff on inexpensive imports from China. 3 Euro per product group for imports below 150 Euro.
Die EU hat per 1. Juli 2026 eine neuen Zoll auf Billig-Importe aus China eingeführt. Wer etwas auf Temu, Shein, AliExpress für unter 150 Euro bestellt, muss in Zukunft für jede Warengruppe im Paket 3 Euro bezahlen. Nicht pro Paket, sondern pro Warengruppe.
Wenn man zum Beispiel T-Shirts, Handyzubehör und ein Haushaltsprodukt für jeweils 5 Euro bestellt, fallen zusätzlich 9 Euro Zoll an. Das wären dann bei einem Warenwert von 15 Euro 60% Zoll.
In Österreich kommt dann noch die Einfuhrumsatzsteuer dazu und ab Oktober dann noch eine zusätzliche nationale Paketsteuer auf Online-Bestellungen von 2 Euro pro Paket und jetzt haltet euch fest, auch für Bestellungen innerhalb Österreichs und der EU, hinzu, wenn der Shop einen Umsatz über 100 Millionen macht, was zum Beispiel bei Amazon oder Ebay, aber auch bei großen europäischen Online-Plattformen der Fall sein kann.
Die EU-Kommission hat auf X behauptet, dass die 3 Euro Steuer nicht von den Konsumenten bezahlt werden muss, sondern die Plattformen die Steuer verrechnen werden.
Denke, dass vor allem eine inner-europäische Paketsteuer den Handel und viele Kleinunternehmer, die auf einer der großen Plattformen aktiv sind, treffen wird. Insgesamt führen neue Steuern dazu, dass die Wirtschaft belastet und gebremst wird.
Viele Produkte, die man bei Temu bestellt, werden ohnehin nur in China produziert und müssen dann aufwendiger importiert werden, mit mehr Zwischenhändlern etc.

As of July 1st, 2026, the EU has introduced a new tariff on low-cost imports from China. Anyone who orders something on Temu, Shein, or AliExpress for less than 150 euros will have to pay 3 euros for each product category in the package. This is not per package, but per product category.

The European Commission has stated on X that the 3-euro tax won’t have to be paid by consumers, instead, the platforms will pass on the tax.
I think that an intra-European parcel tax, in particular, will hit e-commerce and many small business owners who are active on one of the major platforms. Overall, new taxes put a strain on the economy and slow it down.
Many products ordered from Temu are produced exclusively in China anyway and must then be imported through a more complex process, involving more middlemen, etc.

In Israel we are trying to go in the opposite direction with Finance Minister Smotrich attempting to raise the tax free threshold for imports from US$75 to US$150 and then $130, both of which were rejected by the Knesset.
Smotrich is making a big political issue of this and exposing MK's beholden to monopolists that keep prices high and fear competition.
An election is looming and the Israeli public wants cheaper prices.

Wieso ist so etwas normal geworden? Gibt es nichts Vergleichbares in Europa, muss es wirklich aus China kommen?
Der Transport auf dem Seeweg dürfte extrem günstig und effizient sein, in der Masse anscheinend billiger als würde man es in der EU oder AT herstellen. Hat viele Gründe, aber vor allem ist das Lohnniveau in AT viel höher, macht dann keinen Sinn. Besser höherqualifizierte Dienstleistungen und High-End-Produkte anbieten, die dann die hohen Löhne finanzieren können und auch exportiert werden können. Win-Win, zumindest bis jetzt. Sollten wir aber wegen der (Fehl-)Entwicklung in der EU (Fehlentscheidungen, Bürokratie, Stagnation, Rent/Regulation seeking economy), Aufschwung Chinas und KI, auch im High-End-Bereich nicht mehr mithalten, wird der Wohlstand auch mit Zöllen nicht mehr gerettet werden können.
