Discord hat angekündigt ab März eine Alters/ID-Überprüfung auf Discord einzuführen und alle User by default in einen Teenager-Mode zu versetzen.

Um "age-sensitiven" Content anzeigen zu lassen, hat man in Zukunft zwei Möglichkeiten. Entweder sein Alter mit einer KI und einem Gesichtsscan einschätzen zu lassen oder eine ID hochzuladen.

Kritiker sehen darin ein schleichendes Ende der Anonymität auf Social Media und Messenger-Diensten. In Zukunft könnten Alters und ID (KYC)-Überprüfungen immer engmaschiger werden, politischer Content und Meinungen bereits als "age-senstive" eingestuft werden, Alters- und ID-Checks verpflichtend werden.

Zu befürchten ist, dass Altersüberprüfungen dazu genutzt werden, um User eindeutig zu identifizieren und bei abweichenden Meinungen zu verfolgen. Alles was nicht dem Mainstream-Narrativ entspricht, könnte als Hate Speech ausgelegt und kriminalisiert werden. Die Meinungsfreiheit immer weiter eingeschränkt werden.

Auf der anderen Seite möchte man mit Altersgrenzen Kinder vor schädlichen Content und dem exzessiven Benutzen von Social Media schützen. Eine Aufgabe, die eigentlich die Eltern übernehmen müssten, aber oft selber Social-Media und Instagram süchtig sind.

Ist wie immer ein Dilemma, wie Kinder effektiv vor den negativen Folgen von Social-Media schützen ohne dabei die Anonymität zu verlieren? Gibt es diese überhaupt noch? NetzDG in Deutschland und Österreich, DSA, "Hass im Netz"-NGOs, um andere Meinungen zu zensieren etc.

Discord has announced that it will introduce age/ID verification on Discord starting in March and will set all users to teen mode by default.

In the future, there will be two ways to view age-sensitive content. Either have your age estimated using AI and a face scans, or upload an ID.

Critics see this as a creeping end to anonymity on social media and messenger services. In the future, age and ID (KYC) checks could become increasingly stringent, political content and opinions could be classified as “age-sensitive”, ID and face scans becoming mandatory.

There is a fear that age checks will be used to clearly identify users and prosecute them for dissenting opinions. Anything that does not conform to the mainstream narrative could be interpreted as hate speech and criminalized. Freedom of speech is under attack.

On the other hand, age limits are intended to protect kids from harmful content and excessive use of social media. This is a task that should really be taken on by parents though, but they are often addicted to social media and Instagram themselves.

As always, it's a dilemma: how can children be effectively protected from the negative consequences of social media without losing their anonymity? Does that even exist anymore? NetzDG laws in Germany and Austria, DSA, “Hate Speech” NGOs in the EU to censor other opinions, etc.
