I don't understand why this is happening. Isn't Europe the region that has invested the most in renewable energy, or is that a lie?

We invested a lot in renewables but not as much as to be independent of fossil fuels. That's still a long way to go, especially heating, mobility and regarding industry. Think China is ahead of the EU already, also in production of EVs and solar.
