RE: Why do people in the UK drive on the left-hand side while queuing on escalators on the right?

Oh! You've hit on something that annoys me whenever I'm out walking. In the UK, pedestrians should stay on the left. In the same way that drivers do. Because it means that people nearest the roadside can see oncoming road traffic. Otherwise, you can be walking near the edge of the road and be startled by traffic immediately behind you.

Walking on the left was emphasised during COVID lockdown. With councils spending millions on signs and markings. But people have forgotten. Or maybe Brits just want to break rules? (not me!)

If people stick to the rules, then it makes sense to stand on the right on escalators. So that people walking on them can pass on the left.

Thanks for the opportunity of getting that off my chest. 😀

Yes this makes sense, but I was surprised and wondered in London why people (pedestrians) don't follow that rule (in general) on walking on the left and sidestepping to the left, would make sense, like we walking on the right and sidestep to the right here.

How I wish that UK schools would start drilling this behaviour into kids and their parents.

And they say I'm a dreamer! But am I the only one?
