Wine in the City [ D / E ]

Station1: Civediamo Bar, Köllnerhofgasse 6 - Winzer Brindlmayer & Winzer Fuhrgassl-Huber
"Grüner Veltliner Klassik" / "Riesling - Muschelkalk", "Wiener Gemischter Satz Ried Mitterberg", "Riesling - Pinot Monte Neiberie Frizzante"

This week, on October 11th, the Wine in the City took place again in the center of Vienna. Of course I couldn't miss it. I met up with friends and together we completed a very lively tasting tour. Although the weather wasn't ideal - it wasn't cold, but it did rain a little - the event was very well attended.

A total of 25 winegrowers presented a selection of their wines in downtown Vienna between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Our tour took us to 5 of the 14 locations, where we were able to taste plenty of fine wines from Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. There were white, rose and red wines of different grape varieties and flavors, as well as frizzante and sparkling wine. Fresh bread and aromatic cheese were served with them.

The 6 stops along with the winegrowers we visited on our tour and the wines from each winery, some of which I tasted several times:

Stop 1: Civediamo Bar, Köllnerhofgasse 6 - Winegrowers Brindlmayer & Fuhrgassl-Huber
"Green Veltliner Classic" / "Riesling - Shell Limestone", "Viennese Variety of Grapes Ried Mitterberg", "Riesling - Pinot Monte Neiberie Semi Sparkling"

Stop 2: Flowers B&B, Fleischmarkt 12 - Winegrower Galumbo
"Sämling 88 Late Harvest", "Welschriesling Late Harvest"

Stop 3: Wine Bar vis-a-vis, Wollzeile 5 - Winegrower Hagenbüchl
"Muskat Ottonel", "Red Veltliner"

Stop 4: again Civediamo Bar, Köllnerhofgasse 6 - Winegrowers Brindlmayer & Fuhrgassl-Huber
"Green Veltliner Classic" / "Green Veltliner - Schönherr", "Welschriesling - Wösch", "Riesling - Pinot Monte Neiberie Semi Sparkling"

Stop 5: Helvetia Insurance, Hoher Markt 10-11 - Winegrowers Weinrieder & Szigeti
"Old Vineyards" / "Green Veltliner Dry Classic"

Stop 6: Bakery Felber, Tuchlauben 11 - Winegrower Schwarzböck
"Variety of Grapes"

The wines I tested were all very good. I didn't taste red wines this time. In general, I like young, sparkling, but sometimes also very heavy, full-bodied wines - depending on my mood, or depending on the occasion and situation, and I have a preference for late harvests from Burgenland. Accordingly, I liked the sweet wines from Galumbo best, followed by the wines from Fuhrgassl-Huber, which I tested extensively. I also really liked the sparkling wine from Szigeti.

If you don't know Wine in the City - this is a tasting event where top Austrian winemakers serve their wines to visitors with tasting bands (price €29) in different locations. At https://www.wineinthecity.at/ there is all information about the respective event, the locations, winegrowers and partners.
