A matter of choice: how we use money

From the amount and how often it is paid, the payment affords us what we consider a basic necessity, that is, sustenance, clothing and shelter. It can make life easier and more comfortable. But money is not everything. I am of the opinion that money can be at the same time, to a certain degree, explained through how people use it.

People, for example have used money to make people better off, for example, by donating to the poor, building schools and paying hospital fees. This shows their good nature. But for others, money brings out their bad side. They employ it for tricking the victims, bragging, and even to commit violence.

I think money can change people. Unfortunately, for those individuals who already possess a natural disposition to be kind, money increases the ability to express that disposition. For example, there is this woman in my village who, having accumulated great wealth, volunteered to assist widows from our village. Her kindness didn’t change; it only grew.

Also there are people who (once become rich) turn out to be greedy and amoral. They forget their old friends and treat people badly. As for me, I cannot go crazy for money. I think that with diligence and that God have ways. I do not cheat, steal, or suicide in the human sense to earn money.

There are limits I will never cross for money. I am always unable to behave in such a fashion as to make a violation of my own ethical principles go against harming somebody or selling somebody. Money is good, but it should never control over me. I'll do my best to get it fairly and leave the rest to the good Lord. In the end, money is just a tool, and it's what we've chosen to do with money that matters.
