Wills - Wisdom Over Archaic Beliefs

This week's prompt is a very important topic that has caused a lot of havoc in so many families when they choose to ignore and see its benefits. On the other hand, it has also saved some who embraced its importance, from impending or unnecessary chaos.

Wills - What are your thoughts on wills? Do you think they are necessary for everyone or only for some people? Who do you think should make a will? Do you already have a will or are you planning to create one?

Before stating my views on the topic properly, I'd like to give a brief yet simple definition of what wills are.

Wills are legal documents in which a person clearly states in writing and signed how their assets would be shared among their beneficiaries, whose names are also stated, which must be followed when they're dead.

Ignorance makes some people shy away from making their wills before their demise. Thereby causing problems to their children/family when they're no more. My late grandfather when he was alive never saw the need of creating his will before his demise. He believed that writing a will is wishing him death or a way to hasten his death. After his death the oldest son claimed that his late father's assets belonged to him, as the first son.

This raised a lot of dust, creating enmity among them because my dad and his other siblings were only given little or almost nothing from their father's property. If only their dad made a will, there wouldn't have been any chaos, everyone would have gotten their own right share of the inheritance. Wills are necessary for everyone, irrespective of class or status for peaceful living after the demise of the testator.

A lot of people think that making a will is a form of death sentence, wishing them early death or should be for a person who has attained a certain age. On the contrary, I think anyone who has assets,or any valuables, husband/wife, children, ward and relations, even pets, irrespective of the person's age should consider making a will.

Our decision today will either make or mar the peace and love of one's loved ones after them. So, I wouldn't like my family to experience what my Dad experienced as a result of his late father's decision. Though at the moment, I don't have a will. But as one who has the knowledge of how important and necessary making a will is, I plan to have one.

In conclusion, a will is a legal document in which one states his assets and who gets what, when they're no more. Creating a will is necessary and saves a lot of chaos and misunderstanding that would erupt amongst one's family members/loved ones when one had departed this life. It's necessary to put into consideration the wellbeing of those one leaves behind. Hence, making a will is as important as the beneficiaries.
