Destiny - Do you believe in destiny? Do you believe everything is already written, or do we shape our future? Why?

In answering these questions I'll try as much as possible not to sermonize or sound religious…it's a sensitive question. The term destiny, fate, or lot according to the dictionary means an already predetermined event that will necessarily happen to a person or thing in future. Oftentimes we hear people say “destiny may be delayed but never denied”. To me destiny is what you make of it.

Do You Believe In Destiny?

Certain things happen in our lives as planned, while some unplanned. As a matter of fact no one wishes him/herself unpleasant occurrences. Everyone wishes themselves good but then wishes do not build a castle otherwise begars would ride. Like I mentioned above, destiny is what one makes of it. A predetermined event that will necessarily happen to a person or thing in future is “death” - that is everyone's destiny. So, I believe in destiny.

Do You Believe Everything Is Already Written, Or Do We Shape Our Future?

A greater percentage of one's achievements are what one makes of it and divine grace (because some things happen to us not by our personal efforts alone nor by merit). While growing up, we had a dream of what we'd like to become in the future. A mental picture of the kind of lifestyle we'd like to lead. You acquire a degree(s) in any field of your choice or skill. Having done that, you get a lucrative job or business. You build your life and living. These approaches are intentional actions towards the realization of that dream. Your mindset with corresponding efforts to achieving your dream is the determinant of your destiny.

My belief system is that nothing happens by chance. You work it out. You shape your future by conscious living. You can not compare the result of a person who is determined, intentional, focused and diligent with his work to that of the one who is lazy, folds his arms, complains and gives excuses at every challenge, waiting for what life throws ( fate) at him to be the same.

Why?

It is necessary we shape our future, not accepting whatever life throws at us. Accepting it is mediocrity. Instead use it as a stepping stone to build the kind of life you deserve, because we all deserve better. Deserving better means putting in the necessary efforts and all it takes to bring it to reality, not setting for destiny.

Conclusion

Our destiny is in our hands. We all have the power to create and shape our world to be what we want it to be. The future is determined by our little, daily intentional practices, that is the mirror to what the future will look like. Again, our destiny is in our hands to create or recreate.
